Knights sign Michael Dobson
Thu, Jun 27, 2013 - 9:05 PM
The Newcastle Knights are pleased to announce that they have secured the services of Hull KR half back Michael Dobson for the 2014 season.
An Australian Schoolboy, Dobson played 20 games for the Canberra Raiders before being lured back to the English Super League midway through the 2008 season.
In 2009, he was awarded the prestigious Albert Goldthorpe medal as the Super League Player of the Year and was named in the Super League Dream Team for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
The 27-year-old has played 134 games for Hull KR during which he has scored 51 tries and kicked 475 goals and is currently captain of the side.
"We look forward to Michael joining our Club for the 2014 season,” CEO Matt Gidley said.
“Michael has been one of the best half backs in the Super League for a number of years now and will bring further depth in our half back ranks behind Jarrod Mullen and Tyrone Roberts."
Club career:
Catalans Dragons (12 games, 5 tries)
Wigan Warriors (14 games, 6 tries)
Canberra Raiders (20 games, 3 tries)
Hull KR (134 games, 51 tries)

| So this year we've lost Michael Dobson, Cory Paterson and Mickey Paea? Wow! This is bad!

[quote="The Reason":3e09qe5x]Hi Andy
The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.
Regards,

| Well if you get Matt Hilder that's a good swap.

| Massive loss, nearly irreplaceable IMO, but you cant blame Dobson for wanting another go in the NRL and hope he will do well in the NRL.
I feel sorry for Sandercock, having to replace 3 of your best players, is going to be a very difficult task.

Its not so difficult to replace forwards but a scrum half is a different proposition, especially someone as iconic as Dobbo, but that is the task facing the club now.
I very much doubt there is anyone available in SL so expect CS to pull a rabbit out of the hat from Oz; perhaps a minor league player, seemingly an area of expertise for our coach.
At first glance it seems an odd move by Dobbo;, a one year deal and not first choice 7 (as the report suggests), but good luck to the guy and as someone mentioned in the HDM he has to be a candidate for Rovers "Hall of Fame"
I guess we can now expect a string of names linking them with Rovers until a replacement is found. . .I wonder which comedian will mention Seymour

When was the last time he played in the halves? Thought he was a hooker or 2nd row?
A bit old for me at 32 (next season)!

I do
From what I have heard it is Fakir in for Paea, and Ferguson in for Paterson - if it is true then I reckon we have replaced quality with even better quality
. . . but replacing Dobbo will be a different story. I have no idea who is available.

| Without a player of the quality of Dobson at scrum half, the club is going to struggle.
There is a shortage of top quality scrum halves around the world, even in the NRL.
The only consolation for Hull KR fans is that he didn't go to Koukashland, nor to St Helens.

He was one of the best signings for any club in the Super League era.

| As a Hull fan I have to say I'm glad to see the back of him although he'll no doubt go out with a bang in the final derby this season. It was always going to be difficult for him to get a deal in Oz so good to see he's backed himself with a 12 month contract - I'm sure rovers will have some deal in place to take him back if it doesn't work out for him. Replacing like for like will be near impossible so presume you will look at a fringe player who should go OK alongside burns.

| Forgot to say - I presume sandy has had a big hand in brokering this deal with his Newcastle connections? Good on him for doing what's right for the player and not himself if he has
