Browsing here the other day one of the Rovers obsessed Hull fans who can't stay away from here (can't recall which one, there's so many of them!) cast doubt about Paul Cooke's assertion that there should be little trouble marketing the brand name of Hull Kingston Rovers.

Today watching the BBC highlights of the US Masters Golf, Peter Alliss the revered and acclaimed broadcaster noted that Luke Donald the world ranked number 3 golf player was wearing a red & white shirt reminding him of Hull Kingston Rovers!

Not long ago on the quiz show 'Eggheads' there was a RL question with 3 possible answers namely Hull FC, Warrington or Leeds. Talking through his logic the contestent immediately replied 'It's definitely not Hull FC because the rugby club in Hull is called Hull Kingston Rovers'.

Hull Kingston Rovers....................be it a top ratings TV show or the biggest golf tournament in the world, you never know when this iconic brand name might be mentioned next.

Your club has an unusual sounding name amongst other exalted teams such as Accrington Stanley and Inverness Caledonion Thistle. The only difference being that Accrington Stanley last won a major trophy in 2006, Inverness in 2010 and Hull Kingston Rovers in 1986....

I have travelled all over the world and The Hull Kingston Rovers brand is more famous than the Hull FC brand. The last guy I was talking to who had heard of us was a South African on an Emirates flight from Dubia.

A old work mate of mine went to Newcastle with a few of his mates a few years back (whilst we were in the lower leagues) and got chatting to some women.

One woman asked them where they where from to which he replied "Hull". The first thing she said was "Hull Kingston Rovers" to which his FC supporting mate replied "and Hull FC". The woman then looked at him really puzzled and asked him "what do they do?"...

Fans, players, coaches and grounds come and go but the one thing that stays constant is the name and Hull Kingston Rovers is an iconic brand that transcends the sport validated by the continuous mentions of the name outside the rugby league community.

Hull FC will never have the profile we have and it cuts them to the bone.

Here's a couple of dictionary definitions to help you

Minor
having little importance, influence, or effect, especially when compared with other things of the same type
As in: Hull KR won a minor trpohy in 2006

Major:
more important, bigger, or more serious than others of the same type
As in: Hull KR last won a major trophy in 1986

We do have an iconic brand. My Dad used to teach loads of foreign students from the Middle East, Asia, Scandinavia etc & the only thing they knew about Hull before they arrived was Hull Kingston Rovers. They didn't know who they were or what rugby league was but they knew the name.
