Boring, that.

MR has these aspirations to put a nice new catchy name on, spoilt it.

Hello all, series 5.

They are boats made by the maintenance staff in the hospital i work at when they should be working.
We have about a mile of water frontage and a big bay - and those guys play boats instead of fixing stuff.

Nice.
We have a table tennis table, (is that even right?) outside of the hospital here.

That building is the recreation hall and it's basically never used now.

It's an old psychiatric hospital with 11 square miles of land that used to be farmed by the 2000 inmates, but now we use about 20 acres for the 100 residents.

Those pics were taken on an open day on the 100 year anniversary of the hospital.

You can't call them 'inmates', although, Australia is probably the only place you'd get away with it, on a technicality.

you could when there were 2000 of them in the 60s.
now you call them clients or residents, and we call what we do 'forensic psychiatry'

You should see that state of some of our psychiatric units from the sixties, most of them had been open for about eighty years by that point and didn't close until the late eighties.

It's not so much the buildings that make bad conditions - it's staffing levels.

I haven't seen your buildings, but here they were built to last and if you maintained them well and kept them clean they were better than the crappy cardboard buildings they put up now.
Neglect is what made them bad - here at least.

I thought all the residents of convict land were inmates by definition?

Roopy, Mr Worm wants to know if your outback is good didgeridoo land? Lots of termites and all?

He makes and plays them over here but it's damned difficult to find a decent hollow stick in the motherland.

lot's of termites here - lots of hollow branches under trees in the bush - but i imagine you would find a lot of snakes in them.
Not something i'd play with.

Oh, I agree and often these old buildings were built with good intention, lots of light open spaces and what have you.

I think we're probably going to be coming from the same direction but as well as levels of staffing I'd say it was also about investing in staff, as well as a whole heap of other stuff.
