My sources are telling me Newcastle Knights assistant Craig Sandercock has pipped Kevin Moore to the coaching role!

Was assistant coach at Manly when they thrashed Melbourne in the Grand Final a few years ago, before being poached by Newcastle to help assist their Renaissance as a top club!

Very highly regarded - beat off strong competition to get the gig as New South Wales Under 18 coach earlier this year!

He was a North Sydney junior.
Played in the equivalent of NSW cup as a senior.
One year with London Broncos.
Has a degree in Economics and qualifications in teaching and had a career as a high school teacher before being a full time assistant coach for the past 4 years.
Coached at Manly for 8 years starting with the under 16s and working up to firstgrade assistant to Des Hasler when they won the premiership in 2008.
Has coached many junior rep sides, including NSW under 18s this year.
His best work at the Knights has been done with winger Aku Uate, who was a shy kid from Fiji who had problems understanding his role in the team and couldn't make firstgrade regularly. Uate says Sandercock spent a lot of time with him and used his teaching skills to get him to understand where he should be on the field at different times. Aku has gone on to be 2 times Dally M winger of the year, a SOO regular and first picked for Australia this year according to many, and he has several times thanked Sandercock in acceptance speeches for his many awards.

I don't know how he will go as a head coach, but he is a great communicator and teacher of young players.

The Knights had 7 players debut in firstgrade this year, and all 7 had brilliant debuts. That is because they all spent a lot of time with Sandercock working on their role in the team before they made their debut.

He might bring Andrew Dunneman - the Knights halves coach who is also 'between engagements' due to Bennett having his own coaching team.

Although Dunneman came close to ruining Scotty Dureau IMO.
