I'll delete the previous thread, so we don't clutter the place up.

Right, it is the fans of the Newcastle Knights against a joint team of the Hull FC WI and Hull KR fans.

Baron vo Mandor

I know you're waiting on your accounts to be activated - I'll have a word with admin if it isn't sorted in the next couple of days. It won't matter much for the first couple of challenges.

KuH RLfans (in no particular order!)
Worminhand,
Sandra the Terrorist,
dum-dum,
MrPhilb,
Marfa Manu.
SirStan,
Little Robin Redhead,
Barham Red,
Mrs Barista,
Very red robin.

Roopy and Wormy can be captains for the first challenge. New captain each week.

Okay, so the first challenge. The betting one was maybe a bit complicated while we're still getting our heads around the rules. We'll do that for round 2 instead.

Simple one for this week.

You've all seen Masterchef or Come Dine With Me, yeah? At very least you'll be familiar with the concept of 'food'. Your task is to put together a 3 course (starter, main, dessert/pudding) menu with accompanying pictures from the internet. You don't have to make the food - just the menu. I'll put together a panel of judges (mods from other boards), to vote on which menu is the better - ie which they'd choose.
Anything you like - at theme, Thai, Italian etc or an eclectic mix.

A rubbish example - Prawn cocktail, steak and chips, black forest gateaux (sp?). Then I'd find really nice pictures of them for illustration, but I've got to go to work now, so I can't. You've got 1 week, starting... now.
Any questions, post them here.

Is the challenge for the whole team, or for each member?
I'm assuming each member.

I'm also assuming the winning team will be the one with the highest aggragate score - not the team with the one best entry - but correct me if i'm wrong.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Frederick Douglas:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_30596.jpg

Ah, good question roopy, I'd read that entirely the other way around!

You're way would be better, I was envisaging having to send thousands of PM's!

I was with you, if we do it individually it then isn't a team and the team leader has no role.

I thought we all threw in ideas ie Foie Gras starter and Goose stuffed with apricots for main icon_biggrin.gif and the TL pulled it together and picked the final input

The whole team makes suggestions, discusses and then submits a single menu. You can vote or have the captain take responsibility to choose or arrange it however you like.
As everyone has different favourite foods, it should make for good discussion/amusing arguments. It'll be like herding cats, but that is part of the fun.

I'll get 3 or 5 judges to vote. Team with most votes wins.

We'll do some team aggregate score challenges later on.

edit - no need for PMs, doesn't have to be secret IMO. Just do it on this thread. The Knights can do it on theirs until they are let on here.

I think it should be secret, what's everyone else think?

Maybe not this one but in future as obviously the Australians (they haven't even joined yet, best not start the sledging too early!) will do different food but they'll definitely steal ideas in future, that's what they do.

This is The Ashes people!

I think because it is us and them we should maybe go along the lines of Classic British food (source British food)..we could take it even further and incorportate local (Yorkshire dishes)..

Completely agree.

Definitely Yorkshire. list the producers, see what we fancy.

Off the top of my head we've obviously got Grimsby fish, Whitby crab, loads of beef in North Yorkshire, although I would go with some Dexter from these lovely people.

www.goodfoodpages.co.uk/pike-end ... -beef.aspx

We've got loads of lamb, obviously, all the cereal in East and North, some of Europe's best pork in the East, Venison from Round Green Farm near Barnsley, The Ginger Pig farm up near Pickering supply half of London's top restaurants, Judy Bell cheeses shepherdspurse.co.uk/.

Yorkshire rhubarb from Oldroyd's www.yorkshirerhubarb.co.uk/

We've even got vineyards, but obviously they'll murder us at that so lets stick to beer.

Select from;

www.quaffale.org.uk/php/brewery/928

My nomination for a chef would be Stephen Jackson, Yorkshire Chef Of The Year 2008.

In the bag this.

Tom's Chinese is at the top of our street, he's got a Yorkshire accent, and is a supplier to all our new recruits.

I may be accused of not taking this seriously.

Being from Hull it'd be sacralige if we didn't have a fish in one of the courses. personally I like crab and I'd go for a venison and juniper berry main. Rhubabrb based pudding is good.
