Sorry to say I'm not a soldier I do work for the US DoD though in a civilian role we send supplies to the troops out here and ain't allowed to travel anywhere off our base without armed security escorts.
I don't even get a gun of my own but earn plenty and also all tax free, but it just gets boring 3-4 months at a time no beer, no rugby and no women.
