| Anyway troops, I'm off to Normandy with the veterans.
So; Vella over Dowes, Dobson over Long, Sullivan over Shithouse Lloyd.
But seriously:-
Spare a thought for these men and women who gave so much.
We'll fight them on the beaches!
(Back on Monday - Out!)

Me too, you only have to see what our guys are going through now in Afghanistan and then consider the fact, it must have been worse several times over during world war 1 and 2.
The sacrifice all our brave sevice men and women have made, past and present, should never be forgotten.

My Dad is on his way to Normandy with the Royal Navy Veterans association, he and some of the others will be receiving a medal from the French.
He went over for the 60th anniversary celebrations too, he and his fellow veterans found it very emotional, people in the streets were shaking their hands and thanking them.
They brought a photo home of a cafe, in the window was written ' Thank you for our freedom'.
I don't normally post on here, just browse, but this is a subject close to my heart and I felt compelled to register.

Should that have read ever
I understand your sentiments and find it sad that this isn't a public holiday, then it would truely hold its rightful importance in history.

A public holiday would be appropiate as you say.
I believe, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, that the Americans have a 'Veterans day' encompassing all of the armed forces and conflicts.

Yes it is, 25th April apparently.
Perhaps we should get Joanna Lumley on the case

| I respect them and all they did for us, both men and women who served and lost their lives and those that survived to tell the story.
