Quote: Mild Rover "Dave K asked 'I wonder why?'
Well, players facing criminal charges have carried on playing for us and other clubs a number of times. Sometimes even after convictions, though there's usually then a punishment suspension.
The question then is more 'why would they suspend him?', and that comes down to the nature of the allegations, and the potential for reputational damage - like Sunderland suffered as a result of not suspending Adam Johnson. Presumably Rovers made a judgement that it was unlikely that a court would find Walker guilty, as proved to be the case.'"
Did Adam Johnson not plead "not guilty"? Sunderland FC supported him in this only for him to then plead guilty when the evidence was revealed to court?
Admittedly Sunderland didn't cover themselves in glory but I can fully understand why they may have feel let down by Johnson...along with being let down their legal advisers who should have given his evidence a thorough grilling.
