From piecing little bits together, I think plan A was Galea would get a Maltese passport. When that didn't work, we asked Mason to get a Tongan one. He was entitled, iirc, but Tonga had just had elections and was going through a bit of a constitutional crisis.

Either way, I think we learned that a big name player isn't the way to smash the glass ceiling. The only way is to grind through it with hard work and hard cash. The talk of a five year plan is more realistic - that's no guarantee that it'll work, of course. And an iconic signing can still be a statement of intent, but you need to support them with a lot of other stuff.
