Quote: SirStan "Where do you get the impression that Sio needs to work on his defence?
Missed tackles so far
Lies, damn lies & statistics!'"
Purely my personal and subjective view, Stan.
Let's see if my opinions stand up to scrutiny by adopting an alternative perspective.
Stats are useful as a positional comparison, but quoting Sio missed tackles v. Kelly and Blair perhaps falls into the lies and damn lies category. Over the years, I've come to regard figures and stats as a tool to be interpreted not a material fact, a view honed listening to Arthur Scargill - the king of distorted facts, and every subsequent politician and trade union leader.
Looking at the bigger picture, Sio is a winger whereas the other 2 have played mainly in the middle. Blair played off the bench in Rounds 1 and 2. Kelly is everywhere across the park.
On the basis of involvement in the action, it's inevitable that Kelly given his size and position will miss more tackles than Blair and Sio, as the latter won't have many forwards charging in his direction. Kelly missed half of his tackles to date against Leeds and mostly in the last 15 minutes when he was so knackered, he could hardly jog.
As a final nail in the coffin of missed tackle stats, Sio has missed a greater percentage of tackles made than the other 2. Whoopeedoo. Sio in common with all our fringe defenders needs to stop flying in from his wing and let the play develop more. I'm confident it won't be an issue after Rd 6.
