Quote: The Eclipse "Hopefully Omari Caro isn't lost to the game, it's sad but typical of English RL that here is a 23 yo with size and pace albeit still very raw in terms of Rugby League nous is not persevered with.
Instead clubs are always willing to risk 2nd rate overseas players who don't come cheap, take Mantallato for example, if he couldn't kick he would be playing for Wyong.'"
Caro has shown glimpses and I think there was a case for giving him another year. He was a late starter in the sport, so I think his case is a tiny bit different, but speaking generally, 23 is not that young to be still be having to 'persevere'. Kids like Hallett (18/19), fair enough but I do think we're actually pretty forgiving of young homegrown players and willing to stretch the definition of 'young'. Our YPOTY was James Green who turns 24 at the end of November if Wiki is to believed. I've seen at least one post suggesting that 'young' Marc Sneyd might require patience at Hull FC - he turns 24 early next year. Plenty of time in front of him, but hardly a kid anymore.
Be interesting to see where Caro ends up. Top end tier 2 club would be my guess - and tbh he might be better playing regularly there, rather than signing with a SL team and potentially spending much of the year on dual-reg at the third level.
