Quote: NickyKiss "He divides opinion at Wigan a little when it comes to how good he actually is. IMO he's our best centre at the moment but the competition isn't exactly world class. On his day he's a quality centre with a decent pair of hands who's first instinct is to get his winger away and that is always how it should be with a 'proper' centre. His defence is pretty solid as well and he's a guy who will never let you down.
One thing I would point out about his winger in Charnley scoring over 40 trys last year is that most of those were down to Sam Tomkins rather then Goulding so I wouldn't be expecting Jamie Lyon. He had a great relationship these past couple of years with the trio around him of Charnley, Hansen and especially Sam Tomkins. He's looked a little lost without those three so it may take some time for him to settle.'"
This is just not true though when you compare him to other centres and he rates as well as any. Goulding is so underrated its not funny and I think some will not realise how good he is until he has gone. In fact we have seen this a little this season with him being out injured and being left out due to him leaving.
Goulding last season was just outside the top 20 for try assists with 14, Cudjoe was the only centre with more with 16. Only Tomkins and Green with 21 and 16 had more hands in try assists at the club, and with the top 20 dominated by Stand offs, scrum halves and fullbacks this is very good.
In 2012 he had 15 try assists with him being the best centre for try assists and in the top 20 overall. He also scored 10 tries. Again only Finch and Tomkins had more try assists
In 2010 Goulding also scored 24 tries on the wing and was second top try scorer behind Richards.
