If I was in charge of the RFL the first 2 things I would do are scrap the 40/20 rule (absolutely hate it, just punishes good defence and bails out a team who have done a poor exit set) and scrap the video ref. Not only is it unfair that it's only at one game per round, but it slows the games down too much. I wouldn't mind if it was just there to remove the glaring errors, but most of the time they seem desperate to find something wrong with even the most obvious try. So.... what if a team chooses to kick on tackle 2 or 3 from just inside the 40? That's not a poor exit set. Good defence includes defending the man with the ball, dummy runners, kicks and many other things. If the full back/winger have gone to sleep why shouldn't they be punished for losing concentration?
