There was already a thread on the Wigan board that got locked because of people like you jumping to conclusions and posting insults about people you know nothing about.

Just to keep you in the loop, this "scum" do not need to be found as they voluntarily attended a police station last night to give their version of events.

So how would YOU describe individuals who carry out these assaults?

I wouldn't describe anyone as anything without knowing the facts. I've heard two very contrasting versions of events, one in the media and the other from people who witnessed what happened.

Until the whole truth is out, I'd suggests referring to people as "scum" is both prejudice and premature.

Ah OK, well these pillars of civilised society obviously used the appropriate level of force so as to defend the honour of whoever was 'offended' by Mr Gleeson.

Whatever the provocation (assuming there was some) there comes a point in any confrontation when you step over the line. I'd say this line was probably crossed here.

I don't disagree with the last part mate. I'm just saying that using mindless phrases such as "I hope they catch the scum" is a bit daft when most people don't know what actually went on.

Two sides to every side of the story I suppose, and your right no one knows what went on inside the club before the assault, but the report I heard on 5 Live said the potential loss of his sight was following repeated punches to the face, for that to happen Gleeson must have had to have been held or been unconcious, no mention of anyone else requiring hospital attention. The phrases being used are not supprising and at best this is an extremely cowardly act.

You mention earlier that two men handed themselves in voluntarily to give their side of events - hardly had any choice did they? The images were pretty clear had been all round Twitter & Facebook.

He was neither held or unconscious. I agree the lads went too far and lost control, although I wouldn't call what happened cowardly in all honesty. They reacted badly and shouldn't have allowed themselves to be provoked.

I agree with regards to Facebook, as soon as the images went public it was only a matter of time before they were identified.

And finally I most certainly agree with your last sentence, I wish Sean a speedy recovery.

I've got no issue where two people go toe to toe, after a disagreement for example, that sometimes happens in life.
The thing is, you usually walk away from such situations with no more than a few bruises and a little dented pride if your the loser.
However, in cases where two or more people set upon one person means that ( unless you are some type of Bruce Lee clone ), there is usually only going to be one loser.
Most of us have either seen for ourselves or on the news, incidents where similar actions have lead to very severe injuries or worse in some cases, leaving devastated families to pick up the pieces.
Any situation where two or more people set about one single person is cowardly in my book, no matter what the provocation.

What ever the circumstances rugby is a family and I hope the lads career is not ruined by some mindless act speedy and full recovery I hope
