Would you mind telling that to the Ull fans. They seem to think they are destined for greatness icon_smile.gif

Quote: Sandra The Terrorist "Manchester then.

What's everyone think.

For me it didn't work.

Very little sense of anything going on in the city centre, awful area around the ground and too long between games so I only went for ours.

Last year in Cardiff, we attended five of the seven games, this year, one. Partly due to the fact I only live forty minutes away by train so everyone stayed at mine. But because of the large amount of time between games if it had been Cardiff we'd have definitely gone for the Cas/Wakey game and probably caught the second half of the Chemics/Wire game.

At around thirty thousand attending on Saturday that's only around the same as Cardiff. Murrayfield was also better.

I still really like the concept, I just think it's better on the road and making a full weekend of it.

Mitigating factor in that is that I'm currently in a position to be able to afford that and at the present moment I know an awful lot of people aren't.

I did meet a lovely bloke on the train home called Paul who's a fireman, that was a positive!'"

If I'm being honest (and selfish) I would rate it behind Cardiff but in front of Murrayfield. As a venue, I think its perfect for the event, the stadium is brilliant and about the right size for where it's currently at. However, my previous Magic weekends were basically on the lash with a bit of RL thrown in, this one was purely the games this time.

What was Manchester like in the evening? Was there a particular area where the stay-over fans headed to, or were they all over town (like Edinburgh)? If it was the latter, then I would probably chose to travel home and only make a day trip again next time around. Maybe they could alternate one year in Cardiff, one year in Manchester?

The weather helped.

Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and obviously the result on Saturday I've got to agree with Sandra. The hour gaps between the games on the Saturday were annoying although they were due to the training pitch near the stadium being unavailable for warmups on the Saturday. There wasn't any time to go anywhere useful other than Asda and there should have been a big effort in Piccadilly Gardens or Spinningfields with screens, Fanzone nonsense, ticket sellers and shuttle buses to the stadium. If it stays in Manc hopefully the Metrolink will be up and running next time.

You wouldn't have guessed it was going on at all until you got to the Etihad - no banners or posters or anything on the "citywalk" from Piccadilly, this was extremely poor compared to cardiff where the whole place seemed to be at least aware it was going on - bars welcoming fans, people selling scarves and other super-league team coloured tat down in the city centre.

The Millenium is also right in the centre of Cardiff so is far easier to pop out to a bar or pub in gaps between games and because its a bit further away people went for the whole weekend.

The 63000 combined crowd of the weekend to me is a good headline figure but I would be far more interested in finding out how many went to one day only (or even just their teams fixture) and how this compared to Cardiff. It was very telling and noticeable on the Saturday that all the Warrington fans disappeared after their game and on the Sunday all the Leeds fans left after their game and didn't bother watching the subsequent matches.
