| I think it was a good game and both coaches will take positives, which is what friendlies are all about.
For me, your best players were Peterson and Heil.
But I was particularly pleased with our young full-back and scrum-half, both who have come through the Scholarship and Under 18s because it previous seasons the big risk has been injuries to Ian Hardman or Liam Finn. It is the first time we have seen them in the first team, friendly or otherwise.
Also Michael Haley (number 15) missed most of last season injured, so to see him knocking your big blokes about was encouraging.
Best of look for the season, I think your future looks bright.

| Quote: nick hkr "For the line up both sides had out there the scoreline was pretty fair. If our academy side with a few experienced heads in there can take the championship champions with a few missing first teamers then I think there are plenty of positives for both sides to take out of it.
Sam Latus is no full back but was quite happy giving it a go and while it would have been nice to see him break a tackle and open his legs he was relatively solid for a first hit out. The centres are big lads who can cause problems but need to be a bit smarter and think a bit quicker. Hopefully experience will get this right for them.
I'd say our biggest issue is the half backs. Bell wasn't as good this friendly as he was against Halifax this time last year. I would have expeceted a year on for him to be much better than he was but hopefully that was just a bit of rustiness and he'll show up better once he's match fit.
Think it was a good call for Sandercock and Chester to put experience in the pack for this game. There were some experienced heads in that Fev pack who really wanted to put their mark on a few of our lads.
Quiet positive about our youngsters in this game really think what we have to remember is we wont be calling upon 17 of them all at once and generally our cover is good so their development can be gradual while gaining experience. The big tests will be over the next two weeks, pre-season training is over now and they are starting to train more like they will do once the season is underway, this will give them more time to recover, more time to work on learning about other sides and how certain players play...etc Wigan will be a tough test and while both sides will be rusty it should be a really good marker for Sandercock to work from.'"
you were no more playing the championship champions than we were playing Hull KR 1st team, in these games it always seems to be about how many players the super league team have missing, we must of had 8/9 out as well from what will be our 1st choice. It was a good game non the less and the curtain raiser between Selby Warrior U14s and Hull Isberg was just as exciting to watch

One final word, I was hoping to see the new structures etc Sandercock has introduced! Whether it was the opposition or it being the first match under the new coach, but I couldnt see any visible changes.'"
I think we did see plenty of the new structures and was why we were 12-4 up until around the final quarter. His plan has been to improve our defence, the wrestle and the way we put players on the ground. It looked slow, made for quite a boring game and seemed to be laying on an awful long time but because they were still moving the ref could not penalise.
Our slide defence looked much better too if the young lads are anything to go by. We only lost our inside shoulder once or twice through the game which is a big thing for Sandercock (according to the 1st teamers at the game). There were many things the first team would have done differently out there but then we should see that on Sunday! I am really looking forward to seeing a bit more structure in attack from our first choice halves while still having a solid defence. Think the one thing Sandercock will be disapointed with is the fact we let in a late try after just having one ruled out. We almost won the game (not the point of the match but still) but then wen't on to lose by 8pts, this happened a bit last year towards the end of each half so it is a habbit I am sure Sandy wants to put right before February!
