| I had a beer with him on a GB tour (organised by Willow) and he recognised me as soon as we met up. I was known as raggy (of scoobydo) back then. Gavin Miller, a good friend of mine, was also there. Artie was great company. Its hard to come to terms he is no longer amongst us.

'when my life is over, the thing which will have given me greatest pride is that I was first to plunge into the sea, swimming freely underwater without any connection to the terrestrial world'

| Was fortunate enough to see him in a Rovers shirt and was with my dad at the derby match. Will be sadly missed in our great game. RIP Artie

| Fitting tribute to Artie was put before the House of Commons by Karl Turner MP.
rlhttps://www.parliament.uk/edm/2010-12/2505rl
"That this House notes with sadness the death of Rugby League legend Arthur `Artie' Beetson; remembers that `Artie' played for Hull Kingston Rovers with great distinction and has left a legacy in East Hull that has not diminished over the years; further notes that he was named in the team of the century and is a member of the Rugby League Hall of Fame; recognises that he went on to be the first aboriginal to captain any Australian national sporting team; further recognises his inspiring effect on indigenous Australians, encouraging many to take up not only sport but education and employment opportunities; and expresses its deepest sympathy to his family."

| The word "GREAT" is often used when describing players of any sport, and often too lightly in my humble opinion. But when you talk about Artie it is a true description. He was the "BEST" front row forward ever to play the greatest game. Not only on the field but off it. Always aproachable, as long as you was willing to drink with him,or eat with him. A true gentleman, on the field he could give it, take it, whatever the oposition wanted to play. Great footballer could read a game to an extint that often you thought he new what the others where going to do beforte they knew themselves. An uncanny ability as a distributer of the ball.
He will be sorely missed RIP, big fella and have a cold one for me, for if there is a pub in heaven he will be at the front of the que.
