Quote: Wildmoose "It was a lot more than 3 steps, more like 8 or 9, he beat one Hull player 4 times (Solal I think). Easily the best try I’ve ever seen. Laws’ trick was making defenders turn their back on him. No idea how he did that.

Saw Roger play, but I was too young to remember much. As far as modern day players go Phil Hasty & Rob Wilson had big steps…& anyone remember Roy Holdstock scoring at the Boulevard with some nifty footwork?
The David Laws try was October 1983 - I've been going for 40+ years now and that's the best individual try I've ever seen by a Hull KR player. It was on 'Calendar' or something similar the next night but I doubt it exists on tape now.....unless somebody out there has it and can put it on you tube??
Galea is superb but going back a bit...Brian Lockwood could also put an excellent step on for a forward. Early (pre leg break) Roger Millward of course was outstanding. Later on Steve Hartley destroyed many a team with his often telegraphed but still very effecive step. I remember a cup tie in 1977 at Castleford (we lost in the semi...) where he totally destroyed classy Cas...... Alan Burwell as someone said - an almost forgotten true star of the late sixties - I remember him well destroying the opposition at the Bullyvard in 1969 with a breath taking display.
The David Laws try takes the biscuit though - I guess it had to be seen to be believed. eusa_clap.gif

Yeah....you're right. Started off as a half back but with Millward, Cooper, Bunting, Dooler etc on the scene he got pushed out to the wing where his sidestep proved fruitful on many occasions. He ended up at Hull FC - didn't he play in the Players Number 6 Final (v Widnes was it ?) about 1973 for Hull.....?

Quote: Seventies red "Aye i remember stood in one of the two touchline stands that day which was packed to the rafters with KR fans, the atmosphere was absolutaly electric and almost brought the roof down when Hartley took a pass around his own 25 mtre line, from phill hogan i believe and went three quarters of the length of the pitch leaving Mick Burke the fulback in his slipstream.
I also remember the headlines in the sportsmail green the following week, it read, Naughton park belonged to Kr fans, the crowd was around 11,000 the majority been rovers fans.'"

Thats the game ,i went on Doc Holidays bus with the Wingfield Reds them were the days . The timekeeper that day must of fall asleep .
Amazing scenes at the end when we actually won away in Lancashire at the home of the then Cup kings Widnes . icon_biggrin.gifRUMMER:

My memory has Steve Hartley dummying his way out of the Widnes 25 then pinning his ears back..... I think he was chased by Hogan, just in case, but ended up dummying to Hubbard and going over to the left of the posts. Though it was 30 years ago so I might have invented some of that or taken it from other incidents icon_biggrin.gifRUNK:
I also remember the seemingly endless injury time when Keith Ellwell kept going close and nearly burrowing over.....heart stopping stuff. Great times.......... a014.gif
