Quote: Dave K. "With only 6 quota places available for next season, Justin is going to have a tough time chosen the last quota place as I think you already have 5 signed on (Webster, Dobson, Vella, Newton and Galea).
Would you keep any of the others, Lovegrove, MA, Gene, Fisher or Fitzhenry?
Or would you look to sign a top overseas hooker?'"
Fisher has a contract to 2011, iirc. Lovegrove, Gene, Fitzhenry and Aizue are all OOC, but would all qualify as fed-trained on renewal. This is at best a phased introduction of the new rules, at worst it makes a mockery of them. With only a C-grade license I don't think Hull KR would be wise to take the pee too much, even within the rules.
For playing ability, I'd probably keep all, for reasons of PR/license renewal, I think 2 or 3 will be let go, with us signing one or no overseas players. A few of the reserves that have been touted to step up are reaching the age where they need FT contracts or to drop down a level. I'd sign maybe 3 or 4 of them to one year deals. This would give us more depth, at the cost of maybe one decent estbalished SL player and would play well with the RFL. And one or more of them might turn out to be really good, of course.
Cover at hooker and scrum half would be valuable, depending on how well how well Spaven comes along. Murrell can cover there, but then he'd need replacing in turn at LF. I don't know if K. Netherton would come back, but he did only sign a one-year deal at Cas. I wouldn't hold his looking for more money at Widnes against him - these are professional players trying to earn the best living they can.
