What a cultured bird you are, which is another reason for being your Nemesis. I went to Salts Mill a couple of weeks ago, and I enjoyed Salts Diner, but the rest of it was a complete mystery to me. I kid you not, there was a picture of a cereal box holding hands with a chair and it was about £80. And a book for £20 on how to make felt jewellery. Had a flick through it, strawberry felt earrings, seriously. It was like the emperor's new clothes in there. All pretentious bollox. Some paintings of them, an' all.

I don't mind Hitchcock. North by Northwest is alright. I guess I am to culture what Karl Pilkington is to global travel.

Salt's Mill is one of my favourite places, (it's not for accountants) of course you won't get art, you're an accountant, for you it has no discernible value, doesn't work on the balance sheet.

There were some big photos of Brid which were quite nice. I like the idea of Salts Mill, I just don't get what a picture of a cereal box holding hands with a chair [umeans[/u. I feel a bit aggrieved that you say I can only appreciate things with a financial value, when I am essentially the most sentimental person imaginable. I've seen Gone with the Wind a million times and always cry at the end of that. I see beauty and value in a whole myriad of things, from the smile of a child to a sublime melody to a great Victoria sponge cake to Tom Briscoe rolling Peter Fox into touch. Don't judge me because I think a painting of a cereal box holding hands with a chair is only marginally more rubbish than a pair of handmade felt earrings in the shape of strawberries.

Apparently the Karl Pilkington thing is emphatically contrived. According to some of his former colleague's from XFM he's an incredibly intelligent man who is acting his polar opposite. I can sort of believe it, too.

Nothing to do with anything, sentimentality is the domain of the foolish.



Did it make you think? That's what (to appeal to how your infantile thought processes run) is essentially what a lot of modern art is about. The photo graphical style was superseded by Manet ffs.



Like your style, I've gone past high brow, I've got a lovely mousakka and there will be no washing up.

Nothing wrong with being sentimental, foolish and self-aware. In fact preferable to disappearing up one's own backside justifying the intrinsic value of pictures of cereal boxes.




Well, I thought it was a bit daft. I did an AO level in lower 6th in The Study of Art from Giotto to the Impressionists. I can appreciate chiarascuro used by Caravaggio or the symbolism of Van Eyck or the mellow beauty of a Claude Lorrain landscape. I'm not a stupid person, I just have an opinion on modern art that differs to yours but am less judgemental. I think modern art is a tad pretentious. I have tried with it, quite a bit. Went to the Tate in Liverpool - photos of meat steaks with lightbulbs on top of them. Emperor's new clothes indeed.
