| Had a mini pub crawl last night. The Queen's Hotel at East Markham just off the A1/A57 en route to Lincoln, an Everard's pub where I sampled the very nice Castle Rock Pale Ale and the somewhat sickly sweet Everard's Original.
Onwards to the Turnpike at Bawtry where a very good St Austell's Tribute was sampled and finally to the Eagle and Child at Auckley where an excellent pint of Anglo Dutch's Dusk 'Til Dawn, was tasted.

| Ventured to the Old Market Hall at Mexborough and sampled (twice), Uncle Sam's Independence Ale which seems to have hints of melon or peach and is very quaffable at 4.7% plus Mauldon's White Adder, which tasted rather too much of caramel for my liking but may well have been too big a contrast to the Uncle Sam's, so am reticent to write it off.

| Quote: Stand-Offish "Just had two pints of Old Thumper by Ringwood at the Sun Inn at the junction of York Road and Barnsley road at Scawsby.
5.6% at £2.45..........................that equates to normal strength tasteless poop (like John's) at £1.60 a pint which you pay well over £2 for..
Superb!!!
Had a pint of Ringwood Old Thumper in the Sun Inn this evening and they charged me £1.96 for it. Result!
Couple of pints in an old haunt afterwards ... John Smiths Magnet in the Mallard.

How so?
And yet you know the price.....that's bordering on criminal that is exploiting someones mistake.
You will have noticed the hike at the Mallard then......did you take your chequebook?

Well the normal price is £2.45......... he paid £1.96 which is 20% less.
I will have to investigate.

Who knows, perhaps the guy just hit the wrong button??? Still dearer than the Gatehouse or the Old Angel.
BTW The Mallard is expensive, you are correct

| Had a pint of Batemans A Taste Of Heaven yesterday in the Eden Arms. I'm usually a fan of Batemans (they produce plenty of quality stuff) and whilst it was still palatable, it just didn't really hit the spot in the way that many of their brews do.

Just a warm up for a Blades fan . Most of em I know can sup a bit. Had a Bottled Pale Ale weekend. Meantime Brewerys (Greenwich) London and India Pale ale, The India in a massive 760ml bottle with a proper stopper is on offer at the Mo at Sainsburys. Both quality brews and highly recommendable. Taylors Landlord, which in bottled form takes some beating. All very delicious and the perfect compliment to a cigar.

| Just had a couple of days in North Yorkshire (based in Pickering). Plenty of Theakston's, Black Sheep and Timothy Taylors as you would expect but also one or two other nice pints sampled;
Black Dog Rhatas 4.4% in the Black Horse in Whitby.
Camerons Strongarm 4.0% in both the Station Inn, Grosmont and the Goathland Hotel, Goathland.
Wold Top A Hurricane Blew Over Yorkshire 4.8% in the Hare and Hounds, Staxton.
One place I really would recommend is Suddabys in Malton which had no less than 6 real ales available. Their own After Dark Coffee Porter 5.0% was delicious.
