The Friar Penketh, Warrington - Saltaire Amarillo 4.5%,straw coloured and described as a citrusy golden ale. Some orange but not overly citrusy. A malt, bitter and fruity finish. Not bad.

The Friar Penketh, Warrington - Big Shed Kol Schisel 4.2%, brewed by Australian brewer Craig Basford at Hook Norton brewery. A straw coloured Australian pale ale. Yeasty, malty and spicy with very subtle citrus notes. Quite nice and very drinkable.

The Looking Glass, Warrington - Greene King Heritage Ernest Hop Pale Ale 5.0%, as I find with a lot of GK ales, much of a muchness. A pale ale with a little fruit, some malt and hops but nothing exciting.

| My last three pints of real ale have been shoite ...
Snecklifter in the Sun.... sour ... took it back.
Some Selby ale in the Ale house and deli.
Timothy Taylor in the Mallard in town ... I have seldom had a good pint of beer in there ... should stick to lager ... mind you once had a flat pint of Carling in there

Two of those I would never go in these days.
You need a day out with me!

The Hedley Verity, Leeds - Hook Norton Crafty Fox 4.4%, dark brown rather than black (badged as a black IPA). Hints of coffee and roasted malts but not enough for my taste. Hoppy but the more you progress astringent! Not for me.

The Cuthbert Broderick, Leeds - Maxim Raspberry Porter 5.0%, slightly on the thin side for a porter. However, sufficient malt, chocolate and fruit to make it an acceptable ale.

Beckett's Bank, Leeds - St Peters Bloomin' Marvellous 4.1%, not the worst pale ale I've had but they aren't really my bag. A little earthy / herby. I wouldn't put anyone off.
