Cooke gets to watch both RL players and lots of RU players, although from some far flung parts which might as well be Mars as far as recruitment is concerned, but we got Pas so why not some more big strapping lads?

I'd rather us spend time signing players, than talking about the players we have signed. (Don't know if that is what is happening but will save judgement til everything is announced.)

There is a whole new media strategy etc now since tying up with the Rovers, they could be planning a big launch or something...or we might not have signed anyone

Jemmo thats spot about the media strategy. Keep the powder dry and announce when there is a done deal. I realise we live in an age of I want to know now and speculation but we have to have faith in the people running the club. They will know who and what they can afford.

All this may be true ... players may have multiple offers, but they will want to sort out their future pretty nifty ....
So I am not impressed by progress thus far, not least because other clubs are actively signing.
This all equals ... absolutely nothing to get excited about.
I am waiting to be convinced that we are going to provide any threat to such as Leigh.

I'll give you a hint; we're probably not going to threaten them any more than this year. They had a damn sight more investment than us last year and they've just won £250k+ more than us on top.

We're not going to jump from where we are this year, to where they are in one year unless a number of us sell our homes and donate it to the squad builder.

We don't know we're not actively signing, we only know we're not actively announcing. Carl Hall has tweeted again today about Paul and him meeting with new signings, and having talks with others. Surely the best time to whip us all into a frenzy of excitement is the month before the next season starts, not the week after the last one finished.

Of course as I have said before, nothing might be happening, but I'll reserve judgement til all the chips are played.

Preparations for next season are well underway for the Dons and the recruitment of the former Wakefield Trinity Wildcats duo has added yet more anticipation to the forthcoming season.

Kittrick is a half back by trade and said it was a “no brainer” for him to move to South Yorkshire while powerfully built centre Doherty has been snaffled by Paul Cooke after returning from playing in Australia – making an appearance for the Capras in the very competitive Q Cup competition .

The Dons are delighted to announce the double signing and beat off stiff competition from other clubs.

“The message is loud and clear. The attitude of those two boys is brilliant. They know that they might not play every game for us but they want to play under Paul Cooke who will develop them for years to come,” said Chief Executive Carl Hall.

“We are looking for long term players who want to play for Doncaster in the Super League and these kids are going to be the future of the club.

“We’re looking to have a much bigger squad than we had last year and we want to send a message out; you can go out and sign proven named players, but that isn’t what Doncaster are looking at. We are more interested in the age of the players along with their ability.”

That answers my question, I can stop looking for big names.
No worries, talented youngsters it is then.

We showed with Rich Wilkinson last season that if given the opportunity, they can go on to become very good players. Wilkinson definitely showed that, and its something which I feel we've done well in recent seasons, taking in youngsters from SL and other Championship clubs who may not have had the opportunity to play first team, and give them the opportunity to play.

I suppose the club has decided that spending a decent chunk of their available wage bill on three or four quality players is less desirable than investing in seven or eight youngsters who are eager to learn and show what they can do.

We do have a decent track record of improving young players and bringing them on. I don't have a problem with this approach but ...

I can't help but think that we need a couple more proven players of similar ability to Steve Snitch to give the team the correct balance between experience and youth, probably in the prop/second row department.

Nobody banged on about Wilko more than me. I could tell he had what it took when we went to Aldershot and he played vs the Army team.
However not all youngsters achieve their potential like Wilko is doing.
Generally you can tell if someone has the class, and if they do, Paul Cooke is the man to develop it.
So if Paul Cooke reckons someone has the class to make it with the Dons that's enough for me anyday.
