| Quote: Gargoyle "They're a couple of good points but the facts are we aren't either 3rd in Championship or 4 wins for reserves . Next to bottom and the reserves have lost 4 from 4 including a defeat to Sheffield Eagles res who had 90 put past them by Widnes last week and twice to a poor York side.
That suggests to me at least that just because they are from Hull it doesn't mean they are automatically gonna be any better than anyone else.'"
We played Sheffield reserves last night and only just won 38-30. Granted we didnt play well but they are not that bad, they put out a young side to face a strong widnes side including people like danny mills.
What I was trying to say is that the club did the right thing sourcing players from Hull and given time I am sure they will get stronger.
I feel sorry for the people running the club, you simply cannot make small crowds provide the funds for a top side and the day to day stuff such as rent.
It is sad but every avenue seems to have been exhausted now in ways to bring in new support.

| Quote: Karlos "The thing I cant understand though is we must be operating on budget. The crowds are no lower than last year (maybe around the 800 mark on average) but this year we have nowhere near the squad we had last year (or the coach on decent money).
Why are we suddenly struggling with the budget or finances is my question? Our outgoings ill bet are not even half of what they were last year , they cant be. '"
We had a financial backer last season.
Quote: Karlos "Also Gateshead have a team with a few overseas imports, a new coach who wont be there for nothing wages and are surviving on gates of around 300!'"
They have a financial backer.
Simples!

The deal negotiated by the Club for the use of the Keepmoat for this season was a significant reduction financially on last. However, it may still be more than can realistically be afforded.

| Maybe you will need to yo-yo from Championship to Championship1 until your acadamy provides you with the nucleus of players needed to keep you in the championship. Will you really get a change in fans depending on the league you play in?

Probably a more sensible approach than the talk of a Super-League Franchise that we've heard from the club over the past five or six years.
Every time the Franchise is mentioned by the club--everything goes downhill a few weeks later.
In an ideal world it would be great to achieve---but realistically were a million miles away at this moment in time.
The problem is that the majority of Doncaster people will only support a team (Whatever the Sport) thats winning week in week out at the highest level.
Sad but True

Lets not forget the good work of Dave Marshall, when Dave came to the club I understand he was employed to promote rugby league in the Doncaster community.
I feel that without Dave we wouldnt have a club after Craig Harrison dumped the club when it was at its highest peak for years (I would think a decent man would have kept quiet for at least 24 hours after the game).
I can only assume Dave is nt earning a fortune as Chief Exec and has done really well keeping the club going.
If anything I feel it is now the time that the 3 companies which are reported to have developed a 3 year plan for the club should come to the fore.
If these companies are serious they need to look at completely restructuring the club and if necessary getting rid off any sentiment for the past and bring in new faces at all coaching levels to prevent possible infighting and plotting. Most importantly we need an experienced marketeer.
I feel we probably missed a trick not going to Castle Park which may have led to some kind of rugby partnership.
ANYWAY I FEEL DAVE REALLY DESERVES OUR APPRECIATION OTHERWISE WE WOULD N'T HAVE GOT THIS FAR.

But at least It's statement, which is what you asked for isn't it?.. It's better late than never and it explains a bit more than the papers etc..

Yes as stated earlier, I accept there is a greater number of players from the Hull area because of the strength of the game in the Hull area compared with Donny Fact is, from what Ive seen so far the ones turning out for the reserves (who we must agree on in theory are the future of the club) are no better than the local lads who are being kept not only out of the starting line up, but not even making the bench. At least 2 of these are cracking teenage talents already playing open age and on scholarships. They are much more likely to stick with the club in my opinion than lads from outside the area (re the origin of this thread) who will get fed up with the travelling involved for little return.
From where Im standing the clubs about to go tits up again and this time may not recover.
