| Quote: Rochdale - Fax Fan "In the week leading up to St Patrick's day, how about a nice pint of the black stuff?'"
There are much better pints out there than the black fizzy mass-produced stuff you're on about.
Nethergate Old Growler is a dark porter/stout which is full of flavour and knocks spots off it, though there are any number of micros do a better job of it than the world's leading stout producer ( sales-wise at any rate )
Incidentally, I went down Larndan and was sorely disappointed by the Market Porter in Southwark near Borough Market. Had heard and read great things about it, but the three I sampled were insipid and almost tasteless and all for just £2.75 a pint ( starting price! ).
Much prefer the Chandos next to Trafalgar Square. Lovely pint of Sam Smith's Old Brewery at £1.72.

| I must admit to being a fan of Wentworth's Oatmeal Stout.

[Al Murray mode]
Beautiful British beer.
Cheap as chips in the Ivanhoe (my adopted local).
£1.33 before Darling got started.

That's music to my taste-buds
Incidentally, S-O, I agree with you about the Ivanhoe. Had many a pleasant pint and Sunday lunch there over the years.

Yes I suppose your right.
A classic example of a'real' stout is 'Stoodley Stout' from microbrewer, 'Little Valley'. Due to it being such a small brewery you probablly won't find it in Donacster or S Yorks, but keep an eye out when you come to the likes of: Rochdale and Keighly away, as its well worth a sup.

| While i was quaffing my post-work pints of Midnight Bell in 'Spoons on Friday night the manager came over with some photocopies of Viz 'Real Ale Tw*ts'. Very funny. I wonder who has a beard on here.

| Not me, I'm not man enough! Neither do I have a fisherman's-knit jumper or have the urge to sing 18th century Irish folk songs after a skinful, but I do have a rapidly-expanding waistline.
Glad you enjoyed the Ferry. Like the ambience of the place. Can't help thinking it'll be a great place to relax with a pint in hand at the side of the Ouse ( provided it's not 10 feet above normal on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Aaaah!
Have been taking it easy of late. No doubt this will change next week when the 'spoons' beer festival is on.
