Dons Through to Semi-finals of the Northern Rail Cup

Doncaster RLFC are through to the semi-finals of the Northern Rail Cup after an excellent 36-14 win at Swinton Lions.

Dons wingman Stewart Sanderson bagged a personal haul of 16 points with a try and a 100% success rate with his six conversions.

Further tries from Chris Spurr, Danny Cowling, Lee Waterman, Craig Fawcett and Mike Emmett sealed the win in front of the Premier Sports Cameras.

The Dons raced into a 18-0 lead after 25 minutes but were pegged back by Swinton who scored two unconverted tries before the break to give the visitors a 10 point advantage.

The Lions came out strong in the second forty and scored a six pointer to make it 18-14 and the comeback was on for the home team.

However, second half scores from Waterman, Fawcett and Emmett guaranteed that the Dons would be the first name to go into the hat for the semi-final draw that will take place live on BBC local radio on Sunday 16th June at approximately 4:50pm.

BBC Radio Leeds will conduct the draw live from their studios following their broadcast of the quarter-final tie between Batley Bulldogs and Workington Town. The draw will also be broadcast live by BBC Radio Cumbria and BBC Radio Manchester.

Congratulations to the Dons on a well deserved win.

Also credit to the fans who made the journey over to Leigh which incidentally has been the ground we play from for the last two seasons in answer to an earlier post.

Great result and the lads played well.
Just think the first set of forwards make a much bigger impact than the 2nd rotation, and that really tells in both defence and attack.

Swinton looked decent in spells and have some class in the team.

Ref was excellent and helped the game along.

PS feel a bit for Dennis - bad night at office but not through lack of trying.

PPS Powely had IMO one of his best games, but did make a couple of poor decisions, but still learning.

PPS Emmetts try was fist class James Lowes would have been proud of that, even fooled comentators!!!

I thought Fawcetts try was a cracker as well though.

Watched it on the tele and when they described cookeys pass to spur as "a pass you could pour on your strawberries, delicious" it made it for me.
Also when they claimed spur was going on 39, brilliant.
