Quote: embassy "Think butts deserves a medal for playing .if he was playing the other game if would have got a mbe.(football that is ).Mike emmett is. class every week. I think we were by far the better footballing side.and wats first half try does not come into the shocker category. Although. His missed tackle May?.all in all a great result a barrow mate said they were well pleased with a bp.'"

His first half try was excellent, I wasn't sure about the grounding of the second though.

Well!
Let's start with the positives ......
We won.
We tackled superbly when it looked like we would crumble.
There were some stand-out performances from individual players.

And the negatives?
Well!
Can someone on the coaching staff please explain to me why we didn't catch the ball for the first four kick-offs?
This resulted in us being put under extreme and unnecessary pressure.
Secondly why a left-footed kicker was kicking from the left (which is hard) when Cooke could have done a better job with his right boot?

I personally think we let Barrow back into the game, made them look good by dropping the ball and messing up and that Barrow should have been denied a bonus point.

There was no full back in place at times in the first half and Barrow spotted that. That's how the China fumble try came about.

I also think that every poxy bounce of the ball went Barrow's way.

Someone said Fran had broken his leg ... is this correct?

And finally, Fawcett's try. The bloke that went in and out to get Barrow's last try (I think) ... were you watching?
That topped yours!

Barrow 4 Dons 3 at the end of the day, icon_sad.gif

Tony said in the after match press interviews that he was worried about the kicking and he needs to address the situation in training, said probably give the boots back to paul, but he will address in training

I too thought emmett was man of match the kick off are dissapointing but credit to barrow they was excellent from there point of view very hard to catch a ball swirling round like that! I think barrow looked ordinary for most part of the game we had 70% of the play but couldnt kill them off which was credit to them even tho I didnt think they played well they still racked up some points I came away pleased I would have taken a win by 1 point at start and I think well will beat worky

Am quite happy we put 28 past them. 6 tries is no mean feat against the league leaders. Our defence, on the whole, was excellent. The fielding, or lack of it, of high kicks in the first half was non-existent, even slightly puzzling. Not sure how PC got man-of-the-match when he was under 2 of those kicks that were left to bounce. After half-time was a different story. We more than matched them for a good part of the game.

Our promotion is fully deserved when it happens. My best wishes for quick recoveries for both Fran and Mick.

I thought Castle and Emmett played very well yesterday and would have got my man of the match. Kesik and Fawcett also had good games.

Think the officials were the only one's on the field to play badly(but nothing new there).

The tries conceded yesterday were somewhat strange but we still scored 6 to 4 and the creativity shown on attack mean't that we were well worth the win.

Very sad to see the injury to Fran and then to hear about Butts. We're certainly doing it tough with injuries.

Decent crowd yesterday and promotion just about secured now. icon_smile.gif

Need 1 win to be certain, but we can do it in style next week. icon_biggrin.gif

The encouraging thing for me was the way that the Dons battled for the win. Skill from our side late on had evaporated and we kept dropping the ball coming out of defence, so we just wanted the hooter to come. But we battled to keep them out. Liam Harrison thought he could stroll in a number of times and he wasn't alone, but we stopped him and most of his mates.

That is the measure of a good side that they can battle particularly when things are going against them. Barrow showed that they are a top side by battling as well. They also made their fair share of mistakes.

However, there are lessons to be learned from this game about just how we gifted the opposition some of their points.
If you score six tries to four, it not a nice position to be in defending your line knowing that if Barrow go over they have probably snatched it. Given the quality of their kicker.

If we are as sloppy against Workington we will lose!

We started beautifully against Barrow, at 10-0 and with Cooke probing, they had little respite but to kick, yet we didn't cover it properly. It should have been 16-0 at half time and we should have kicked on to a decent win in the second half, by just keeping the pressure on Barrrow and dent their resolve.

We did play well in the second half however, but by then barrow were up for it and it was anyone's game. It shouldn't have got to that stage IMHO.

Roll on Workington. This will be a sterner test in my view.
Win it and we could win the division if Barrow lose again somewhere along the line. They have got Workington at home soon.

As discussed on the Highlights thread, Emmett took a defender out off the ball (you can see it in back play on the video), the same defender whose absence left the gap which Hughes went through
