Well I'm definately in for a monthly donation as soon as the club clears up some queries I have about the form - considering the importance of this I want to get this right first off with no mistakes, especially considering the short time frame. Don't know if that helps the mood any. If its felt as has been mentioned that it will help moral and donations by me posting the amount on here I gladly will - however I feel that to prevent people being intimidated by the amounts and not offering its best if all donations are kept secret.

Quote: Stand-Offish "We are not going to get there, seeemples as the MeerKat says.

One of the problems as I see it is that the money is mainly promised on a monthly basis and though that is what is needed in the long term (over 1 year), it is not what is needed in the short term.
It's up front payments that are needed so we can get Paul Cooke paid for the first few months, then we can sort out the shortfall later.

If we get him, someone (probably the Dons) are going to have to chip in with about £800 to £1000 a month until we can get some events organised to pay them back.
That or we won't get him.
We are going to have to get him on the never never.

With every newspaper article explaining the situation that we have submitted, there should have been a mandate/donation form alongside, or there should have been a flyer.

Every eating house in Doncaster should be approached to sponsor him and have a mention in the match programs.
Come up with a slogan, his name is Cooke for goodness sake.
£50 a time ... or more if they wanted.
It's nothing to most of them. They can set it against tax anyway, can't they?

Let's have some more pro-activity from the club ... there aren't enough fans to pull this one off alone.
Get on the telephones to businesses, explain the situation and ask for a £50 donation.
If you don't ask you don't get!!
The phones should be red hot.

It's not the fans problem alone anymore, we've done our bit, or we will have done by next week.
So it's down to a fresh push by the fans BUT ALSO, more importantly, a fresh push by the club.
And I just don't see why we can't organise another game. That could net a quarter of the money or more up front.
I mean this with all due respect.
You're the guys in charge, not me.
Good Luck
COYD.

PS I thought the bit about ''we have tried everybody for a game'' was frankly.......... lame.'"

i understand stewart piper now does after dinner speaking why not arrange an evening with stewart piper as speaker for say £10 a head and put proceeds inthe fund just athought.

how about a celebrity game with some of Carls' mates (plus Carl) ie Robbie Paul etc turning out against a team of past or present players ? then auction off the signed celebs shirts ?

We've set our sights on Paul Cooke and I will be very surprised if we let ourselves fall short of that. We will find a way to pay him.
I know it's easy to say, but we will.'"

It's a right rollercoaster ride is this icon_lol.gif

Seriously though how are we supporters going to feel now if we don't get him?

How about a game involving the Dons and one player from each of the Superleague clubs plus players from local C1 clubs.

Sorry, I meant Championship clubs.
I was one out, that's not bad for me.
It's irrelevant anyway, since there won't be an extra game .... because ''all avenues have been explored''....paaah!!!

I thought the business model for the Dons was based on a number of local business people putting x amount into the club over a certain period of time. Is that still the case or has it changed, or was this model never adopted ?

Yes, I believe that the 'advisory board' are local businessmen who have invested financially in the Club by way of sponsorship. I'll stand corrected though if that has changed.

Sponsorship yes I understood that .

My main concern was that we will need some new money from a few businessmen to achieve the £20K.

Not sure how the Development Contract will work considering it's effectively a player we wish to sign. The figure quoted on Tuesday evening of £18k could in reality be required over a 9 month period i.e January - September 2012.

That being the case the mathematics are quite simple ... £2k per month required.

At the moment, based on pledges currently known to the Club we are currently approaching 1/4 of that total.

In truth if we could get business support rather than simply relying on the hardcore supporters we may have a chance but as it is we have a long way to go.

Perhaps SO's idea about approaching local businesses involved in the food trade is something which the Club could allocate some time to? You wouldn't need too many chipping in £50 a month to give us a more realistic chance of reaching our goal and as SO stated, surely for them it can be 'set against tax'.

I would have thought the Development contract would be over 12 months , the playing contracts ie agree over the shorter period !

The main problem is having enough pledges in to determine if the club can go ahead with the venture.

One thing is for sure we have all got to work together to ensure we donot have a shortfall later in the year.

I'ii check my lottery ticket now icon_wink.gif & who won the Christmas Draw !

There needs be a lot of pledge form "in the post" or else the £2k per month is looking a long way off.

The club should have made it easier for fans to complete an online form at the website to get signed up. As I write the SquadBuilder isn't being given enough prominence on the Dons' site.

Some good ideas posted by S/O and Wanderer. Businesses setting donations off against tax shouldn't be interpretted as meaning that it costs businesses nothing. It means they don't have to pay tax on the amount they donate, which in effect means that for every £100 they give, it will cost them around £80 net.

Pity we missed out on a friendly against a Super League club. That would have really helped. Essential that we get a Super League club in the Challenge Cup to boost income!

The large supermarkets might be a good source of sponsorship. From a commercial point of view, being seen to do something for the local community could perhaps be a good selling point.

[iThe bottom line here is that if we don't get Paul Cooke we would be starting the season at a very low ebb, supporters would be very deflated, and the future wouldn't look very good.[/i

We can't afford to miss this opportunity and I would appeal to all fans to give a little if you can.

Didn't I say as much?

It's all depressingly one-way at the moment.

You didn't honestly think we didn't know how tax works did you? I mean if it cost them nothing, getting sponsorship would be the easiest game in town, 3.0498046875:10
