He was hooker in Hudds academy, used to play loose forward at Crigg

I'd agree. Not a signing that stood out initially but potentially a good un

| We needed a reaction after last week ,and boy did we get one.
I for one thought we would get beaten, given the money and hype around Rochdales new owners and the squad they had assembled.
I was pleasantly surprised at the changes made by RH after last weeks performance and can see it bodes well for the season ahead, as far too often players that under performed still retained their shirt the following week as we don't have sufficient bodies to cover all positions.
I thought our pack was dominant in the first half , and with Doherty and Greensmith on the wings, it was like having two extra backrowers to carry from our line.
The number of penalties was drastically reduced from last week however some poor decisions gifted Rochdale a way back into the game when they looked dead and buried in the first 40.
Impressive performances from Douglas, York ,Mudoti and Johnston in the forwards , Whitmore looks a good signing as did Ben Johnston when we came off the bench.
Great performance from the boys ,and to add to my days pleasure the " World beating "Cougars got tonked by my title favorites Barrow which i found highly amusing givien last weeks posts on social media by some of our ex players.
Paul Cookes commentary was excellent as always , giving a very complimentary view of his time at the club.

| Well said KLD. I wondered if Jack Miller had a big silly grin on his mush at the end of the game at Barrow

I wouldn't mind but Miller is hardly a quality half , give me Matty and Watson over him everyday.
Looks like their bubble has burst after one game of giving it the big licks, and with Rochdale , Hunslet and Workington as their next three games their season could be over by the end of the month.

| We are in a League that is easy to denigrate by the elite and pampered fans of SL but there are some very good teams in L1 with good players. Look at Penky yesterday at 39 yrs of age, still quality. And at the end of the scale young Greensmith, who given the right tuition and looking after could be anything.

League one has some quality this year.
I think with the addition of Miloudi, Barrow have the league title nailed.
For me its a case of playing for second place with four teams in the mix.

Not going to disagree with them being title favourites and if their away form holds up against the top sides it will prove it. Fascinating season for League1 this time around and it could be a belter.
What I do like this year for our perspective is the competition for places, which should stop any player getting lethargic about his starting place.

| I thought Sam Smeaton grafted really hard in attack and particularly defence...he was one of 3 players I didn't think should be in the side and he stepped up to the plate.
So full marks.
I think Horne needs to sort out his best side and play them with a bit of clever rotation to give everyone a game and keep his best players from getting burnt out.
I don't think we know the best side yet....but we soon will and I am convinced it includes a place for Ben Johnston in the starting line up and not just a utility back.
I think we need to find a fullback.. Misi and Ben seem a bit lightweight at fullback.
Then we would be the business.
There is enough potential in the young forwards to be very optimistic...although they need schooling in the dirty cheating ways of opposition ball stealers and wind up merchants.
I noticed a couple got suckered once or twice yesterday.
Rochdale were very savvy and really well drilled and I thought better organised and quicker from the play the ball.
Fitter too...
But the elements are all there for the Dons to be formidable...under a great coach....like me!

| I see that good old Jason has not lost his rush defence technique and leaving a gap you can march an army through . Wouldn't be without him though

| It's a debating point....should a coach let players play their own game or should said coach make players iron out faults and play the 'team' game.
Case in point is Jake Connor ....brilliant artist and creator but an ar//se at times.
Cost Hull the league game vs Wigan.

| You're probably right. When he connects it's great. Often doesn't though.
