Please note: It seems that this place has gone down-hill in that the owners only open when they feel like it. On Wednesday it should have opened at 5pm but when we called just before 7pm, we eventually got told by some locals that it wasn't opening at all that night!

Clearly, I don't recommend wasting time calling here in future!

Pendle Witches Brew - a very nice strong malty beer from the Moorhouse Brewery. Wish I'd had some on Wednesday - might have dulled the pain a little!

Gatehouse and Tut & Shive tonight before a trip to the Keepmoat (not for the beer obviously).

Exmoor Stag (5.2%) and Pendle Witches Brew (5.1%).
The Wetherspoons is called The Regal Moon....presumably previously a picture house called The Regal.

Had a few decent brews since posting. Wednesday saw me at the Hare and Hounds in Fishlake where I sampled Boondoggle ( Ringwood) and a rather insipid Marston's Long Hop. Hope that Marston's takeover of Ringwood doesn't result in a dilution of beer quality. Must think Old Empire rather than Pedigree .

Had Spire Sovereign and Whiter Shade of Pale plus Saltaire Olympia ( a re-badged Blonde ), Bradfield Yorkshire Farmer and Ossett Yorkshire Glory at the Bluecoat in Rotherham, all to which I would definitely return.

Sampled a few White Lion from Red Lion Brewery, Ossett these last few days in the Fighting Cock, Bradford. Gorgeous pale ale.

The Gatehouse had Courage Directors last night - lovely drink!

No complaints on either score mate.

The Arkwright Arms had The Brew Company's Slaker, Derby's Fruity Blonde and Newby Wyke's Summer Session, all eminently quaffable light summer ales at around 3.8% ABV each.

Sampled Titanic Red Ensign, Butcombe Blond, Wood's Wonderful and Three Rivers Hilary('s) Gold at the Bluecoat, Rotherham. All very palatable and would/will definitely pay a second visit.

Tried the Red Ensign on Friday in the Gatehouse before noticing the Directors. It was a little on the sour side. Interestingly enough, someone else made that comment whilst we were stood at the Bar later so perhaps it's usually better than that.

Perhaps it was from the bottom of the barrel or, dare I say it, not as well kept as it might have been? As far as Directors is concerned, it's not a patch on how it used to be, although still infinitely better than the dishwater badged as Smooth.
