I'm not sure they would like twenty odd people.

Good point!
We have a games day each year, basically an excuse for boozing hidden behind a thin veil of competition. Used to have it at The Fitzwilliam Arms until someone got macheted and it shut. Last year was the the trades and labour club but they cant get us in this year. Just after a town centre-ish pub with a room we can have to ourselves

Used to venture in from work and have used the room to the left of the bar for meetings on occasion. Would be ok for 20 people (although I might change my mind once I find out what games you play) - it's basicly an old-style 'snug'.

| Sheffield last Sunday ...
Ventured out to Hillsborough to the Rawson Spring and didn't regret it as they had Bradfield Brewery's excellent Farmers Brown Cow 4.2%. Next up the Hillsborough Hotel at Langsett where one of the 'house brews' Crown Black Jack Stout 6.0%. was sampled.
Also visited the Devonshire Cat (Vale Best Bitter 3.7%), then a pub I hadn't visited before, the Old House (Maxim Maximus 6.0%) and the Bankers Draft (Davenports Fury 4.3%) before finishing with a pint of the wonderful Thornbridge Lord Marples 4.0% in the Sheffield Tap.

| Had two cracking porters today, the dangerous Elland 1872 Porter, heavy but beautiful at 6.5% and Wentworth's Damson Porter with the sweetness of the damsons balancing the bitterness of the stout excellently. Sampled at the Bluecoat, Rotherham.

| Grafters Traditional 3.7%
Oldershaw Alchemy 5.3%
plus Toad Brewery's Da Vinci Toad and Mature Toad
sampled whilst watching England on Tuesday evening in Cask Corner.
The beer was obviously better than the football.

| Westgate Gangly Ghoul 4.2% a new one to me (in the Cumberland last week).
Obviously, the Halloween ales are starting to surface.

| Visited the Bulls Head in Manchester (stop-off on the way the way to the Reebok) and sampled Hook Norton's Hooky Dark and Titanic Engine Stop.
Sheffield Tap on the way home ... Thornbridge Lord Marples ... well it'd be rude not to!

I like the majority of the Toad brews but the St Leger Festival Ale wouldn't be amongst my favourites. The Ossett Treacle Stout is however, as you say, one of the best of its type.

| First visit to the current JDW's Real Ale (& Cider) Festival last night ...
Titanic New York Wheat Porter 4.2% (brewed exclusively for this festival) and Brewdog Edge 3.2% in the Red Lion. Both nice drinks without being spectacular. Slight preference for the former, a dark ruby coloured ale with chocolate a clear influence. The latter a mild.
Castagn Ale 4.4% (Italian), my favourite of the evening, which was smooth and full of flavour. Reading the tasting notes, caramel, fruit, chestnuts and honey are in the mix. This one was sampled in the Gatehouse.
The Old Angel was disappointing in that only two ales were available (not for the first time). RCH Strawberry Line 5.0% was selected and was enjoyable enough, the strawberries being evident but not overpowering.
Finally, a visit to Cask Corner and a pint of Howard Town Brewery's Snake Ale 4.0% ... probably poor selection on my part but I didn't really enjoy this amber ale.
