| The balance of getting it right off the field compared to on it is not right in my view, how can we have very rich owners, more and more sponsors coming in and academy's being set up but a continually underachieving team? obviously first and foremost you have to be a stable club but we have been for a few years now surely we as paying fans deserve the rugby to be better and my view is it's simply not.

| Well we can all agree on that , lets see which players are retained & who is recruited !
Would like to finish the season on a high but clearly we have not been consistent enough .

| I’ve been reading this forum as a guest for the last few months but never contributed due to all the negativity and lack of respect towards differing views. I would like to voice my personal opinions without insults being thrown at me because my view may be different to someone else’s.
I enjoy reading the informative postings with articles telling us about things we wouldn’t otherwise know about and also the suggestions for improvement.
I realise that things don’t always go well and some people need to have a rant and a forum is just the place to do that. What it shouldn’t become is a place to hurl personal insults at each other.
This discussion seems to have taken a turn for the better now the ‘handbags’ have been put away!
I look forward to more of the same.

I remember sitting in the stand at Castle Park when the Dons lost to Whitehaven (It was the last game Shaun Leaf ever played after the spear tackle from Jesse Joe Parker). Paul Cooke had just been sacked and Gary Thornton first took over and I couldn't believe how we'd slumped to the bottom so quickly. It's been pretty tough ever since too.
I too question whether the lack of progress is due to Club Doncaster not investing enough money in the playing side of things but neither Paul Cooke or Gary Thornton made reference to this when they left. Richard Horne stated in his Free Press article:
“It is going to be a process of just building and hopefully we can achieve it quicker (than has been talked about) because the owners have shown they are prepared to invest.”
It could be argued that none of them would be critical but I think little murmurs of discontent would have surfaced. I can't honestly believe Richard Horne would come here if he felt he wasn't going to get the financial backing he needs.
I believe the recent problems have been more down to poor recruitment rather than lack of investmant.
I'm looking forward to seeing the retained list and seeing who we sign.

| I also went to that game in what was a dreadful season.
I went for a pint at half-time and I didn't come out for the second half. Tony Miller was there and I invited him to come back ... he declined.
When I did poke my nose outside the Dons scored 3 converted tries.
It tickled me when Alan was told to leave this forum ...
He always was a neg-head.
Alan, either support the Dons or go!
lol
Incidentally, some people need to look up insult in the old lexicon.
I haven't seen too many on here ...

(as I've already stated I think club Doncaster and what its trying to do is brilliant for this town but I'm questioning the wether the guys at the top are competent enough)'"
Well the man at the top on the administrative side, Gavin Baldwin, is excellent. I see him in action a lot and have nothing but admiration for him. In particular he is very good at responding to suggestions for improvements which benefit the club(s) and fans. I would not be surprised if some larger organisation were to try to prise him away from us.

Like you I also have nothing but admiration for the bloke, we (Club Doncaster) are very lucky to have him (Rovers head on as well with that post)

| I was very impressed with Gavin at the Fans Forum too. He seemed to be very open to new ideas and seemed prepared to do the spade work to get the ideas into practice, rather than hope for volunteers to do it.
He would certainly be a loss to the club if someone poached him from us.

| What Mr Baldwin & the club require is a board of directors with experience of running a professional rugby league club & also have good contacts within the game.
If we haven't got one already the club needs to put in place a scouting system to view the players in the amateur leagues in West Yorkshire & Humberside areas.
I maybe wrong but I don't think the Dons have had a club scout since Mince in the John Sheridan era.

The scouting question in particular sounds like a good one for the club to answer, Geoff.
I'd be very interested to know what we're doing on this front.
