Just to keep things ticking over, how about we all ask Geoff some really obscure questions.?

His a couple for you.

Why is abbreviations such a long word?
Why is there only one Monopolies Commission?

Why in English do we say a 'pair' of underpants when it is only a singular item, the french for example call them by the singular ie 'un slip'

Strange, isn't it? It wouldn't quite work if we said, "I got my knicker in a twist!"

Or, "I put my pant on back-to-front today!"

I often wonder where some of the old Yorkshire sayings originated from like, "Have a gander," "Black bright," and "Put wood i'th'oil."

Just been reading the League Weekly and notice that Carl has announced two signings for 2018.
"We have signed a couple of older players that we will be announcing soon" he said.

Does this mean this in addition to the older players already at the club ?

I wonder where "mardy" and "monk on" came from.

I wonder if "monk on" might have something to do with being quiet when fed up, so not speaking like a monk?

The one I mentioned earlier, "Black bright" probably has a coal connection?

Well, 'mardle' in Norfolk is to talk or rabbit-on so maybe 'mardy' is a corruption of mardle. Does 'mardy' mean being talkative or chatty where you are ?
