| Visited the Salutation in Doncaster last weekend and was pleased to see that they had a number of Real Ales available (that hasn't always been the case of late). Youngs, Abbot Ale, Spitfire, Old Speckled Hen and Flowers IPA were all procurable along with Tetleys Cask.
The Pub doesn't have an entry in the Good Beer Guide this year after falling out of favour but based on last Saturday is still worth visiting.
So much so that I was back yesterday, the Youngs had been replaced by Bombadier and the Flowers by Bishops Finger (with the others still available).
Can't fault it!

| At the risk of being accused of repetition, The Salutation really seem to have got their act together.
Paid another visit on Saturday and again half a dozen quality real ales, this time including Camerons Strongarm Ruby Red Ale and Greene King IPA.

| For those of us venturing to York on Monday and going via the City Centre (by Rail for example), there are any number of excellent pubs worth a visit.
A couple not too far from the Railway Station worth a visit are The Maltings at Tanners Moat below Lendal Bridge and Brigantes Bar on Micklegate.
A little further into the Centre, The Last Drop Inn, The Yorkshire Terrier and The Three Legged Mare all rate highly.

The Wonky Donkey, oh yeah, legendary. York Brewery's brewery tap.
I'd go along with that particular suggestion and the Maltings. Not tried the others but will give them a whirl.
In the meantime, the Mild in May promotion has started early at the Bluecoat in Rotherham. Would recommend Milestone Dark Night (sic), Acorn Darkness, Bradfield Brown Cow and Spire Dark Side of the Moon.
Also quaffable was Eastwood and Sanders Nocturne.

The Last Drop Inn on Colliergate and the Yorkshire Terrier are also York Brewery pubs with the latter sitting behind the York Brewery Shop on Stonegate.

| Another little gem in York is the Blue Bell on Fossgate which always reminds me of how the Mason's used to be in Doncaster (if you get in there you'll understand what I mean). It usually has half a dozen real ales available with regulars including Adnams Broadside and Timothy Taylor Landlord.

I wouldn't base too much credence on what it says in the GBG anyway. I've been to many a listed pub only to be disappointed.
Incidentally, there's a Thornbridge Brewery, Meet The Brewer Night at the Bluecoat in Rotherham on 8th May. Me and my good lady will be there sampling the Jaipur (hideously strong and very drinkable IPA) amongst others.
For a couple of quid by train, it would be well worth your while. Hair of the dog after the York trip

My favourite IPA is Jaipur, fabulous drop of beer. Unfortunately I will be in Portugal but I would have had a ride through otherwise.

| If you see it out and about, try a pint of Barnstormer on draught. If you like a drop of lighter ale, Brains FA is worth trying. That's from Morrisons. I haven't seen it anywhere else.

If you get chance sample the Birds and Bees from York brewery. They had some on at The Eagle and Child at Auckley the other week, 4.3% and I thought an excellent warm weather ale.

| Visited the Yorkshire Terrier and the 'Wonky Donkey' yesterday but didn't see any Birds and Bees, just Guzzler and Yorkshire Terrier. I'll keep an eye out for it though.
