| Doncaster Rugby League Club is very saddened to hear of the death of their former physio Michael Geoghegan who passed away in the early hours of New Year's Day.
70 year-old Michael was better known as George and was the Dons physio for many years after initially helping out Don Brooks before taking on the role himself. George also worked for the club's lottery scheme full-time for five years in the 1990's and performed other roles for the Dons.
George was born in Doncaster in 1942 and played rugby league for Bentley ARLFC when the club first formed in 1963 where he became good friends with Dons President Stewart Piper and commercial manager Ray Green. George also had several stints at Thorpe Marsh Power Station before retiring and also served in the Royal Navy.
George had been battling cancer for a number of years and was taken further ill on Christmas Day morning before spending his final days at the St John's Hospice in Balby.
Dons chief executive Carl Hall has spent many hours at George's bedside and said: "George has been like a father to me since I first came to England to play rugby league at the age of 18.
"He looked after me very well and welcomed me into his family like I was one of his own and I will never forget what he has done for me.
"The many tributes I've seen over the last couple of days on the Dons Facebook and Twitter pages are very fitting and nobody has ever had a bad word to say about him.
"On behalf of the Dons and all the Kiwi boys, I'd like to say that we were so privileged to have such a great man come into our lives and we will never forget your kindness - you were a true gent and a Dons legend.
"RIP George, we all love you and are going to miss you forever."
The club send their sincere condolences to George's wife Margaret and to their sons Mark and David. Details of George's funeral will be announced on the Dons website once finalised.

| From Amanda Parkhouse - A friend told me today of the sad news about 'George'.......i just couldnt believe it!
I asked my husband to look into it for me.....he confirmed that it was true.
I would like to send my condolences to his wife and family, George was such a lovely, kind and gentle man. When we lost my dad 'Kevin Parkhouse', 'George was one of the first people to give me a hug (not a lot of people knew how to approach me) but george knew....just a hug said it all.
We havent seen George for a while but i will hold him dear in my heart. I know my dad would be gutted to hear the news!
God Bless George.......dad will look after you now. x x x x

| From John Parkhouse - I'm still a bit shell shocked after hearing the news about George. he looked so well last time we saw him and told us that things were going well.
I had a huge amount of respect for George, he always had a big smile for every one and always made a big fuss when he saw us.
He welcomed me into the rugby family with open arms when I first met him and treated me like an old friend from day one.
He's a huge loss to us all and will leave a massive hole in both the rugby world and in the lives of all who knew him.
Rest in Peace George you will always be in our thoughts.
John
