Agreed it is going to take 5 or 6 games to gel, but 30-14 to us hopefully.

With many of the players missing from the 21 on duty last Sunday still likely to be unavailable this Sunday, there aren't, it would appear, likely to be wholesale changes.

That should provide us with a group of players who, in the main, have had one competitive game.

Sunday would appear to be Oxford's first pre-Season fixture.

Based on that very limited information and home advantage, I'd be a little concerned if we weren't a good 20+ points up come FT.

hiya peeps, not to worried about the score for me its more about how we play as a team, the bigger the win margin the better we will have played.
we should have a better idea how good are players are this week, lets hope for some open flowing rugby. COYDs.

Whilst the score isn't completely irrelevant, I want to see the team look like a more cohesive unit, especially in defense.

I've no doubt we'll be able to score tries this season, I want to see that we're able to defend well too, as I think this is where we'll need to be particularly good if we're to finish top of the pile. We'll be able to leak points to the lesser teams and still win but we won't be able to do that against the better sides.

It'd also be nice to see a few new creative plays too and a few old ones return, like the much under-used run around.

Run arounds have died out as defensive lines have got quicker generally, the pivot man was getting whacked too often and you were losing yards for the pleasure

It's a fair point that defensive lines have got quicker but there are still some sluggish efforts to be exploited, probably in the last 20 minutes of a game. Run arounds seemed to be creeping back into some Super League games last season, and worked to quite good effect too. I also seem to recall that we scored from one ourselves towards the back end of last season. In the right place, at the right time, I still think it's a simple way to cause hesitation in defenses.

The swing back switch play that Castleford seem to use more than most is another way of causing similar defensive confusion. Maybe this is perhaps a better option to the round around as in Jemmo's words, nobody gets collared with this one.

Either way, I suppose I just want to see some inventiveness that doesn't rely too much on one-man rugby, with variations to our play.

All too technical for such as me DM. icon_lol.gif I will be happy if we cross the 'whitewash' more times than the opposition (oh and kick the resulting two)

Say what you mean and mean what you say because those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter.:

Need the Craig Cooke move ar dummy half which usually fooled the opposition and sometimes the ref.

Even though we still have numerous forwards out we need a moral boosting win.

Nobody was too worried that we lost to Hull last week. We probably don't expect to beat Leeds next week, depending on the strength of their team, of course, but a loss to Oxford would really get us concerned.

We've probably got something to lose today, whereas in the other two games, we haven't. Weighman is right, we do need a morale boosting win because a loss would be terrible, even though it is only a friendly.

I must admit that I hadn't considered a defeat as an option today. I was thinking more on the lines of how many we'd win by, but the thought of losing is sending shudders down my spine. All of a sudden, the Hunslet match from the last pre-season has sprung to mind.

Yes, players and fans alike need to win today or else the season ahead will take on a completely different complexion. A loss wouldn't be terminal, especially with so many players out, but it'd probably bring us all down to earth with a bump.
