Quote: jawuk "Having read your various forum posts for the last few months, as an outsider looking in you seem too reliant on the dual reg players you may or may not get on a week to week basis. You seem obsessed by what might be on offer via dual registration pickings every week instead of what you already have at home. May be it's time to break free from the Hull RLFC shackles. You may be suprised by what you can achieve by the local / home grown talent that is available.'"

The reason why we probably focus on the DR situation so much is that we know that we need the better quality players from Hull to help us get out of this league. When we’ve had the likes of Jack Logan, Hakim Miloudi, and Jez Litten in the team, we’ve look like a team capable of promotion.

At the moment, we’re very vulnerable against the better teams in this league. Unless we do something to reduce that vulnerability, our aspirations of promotion will be a hope, not an expectation.

I believe we are trying to recruit local talent but bringing in players in this manner is more of a longer-term project, rather than a fix for now. The importance of getting out of this league cannot be stressed enough as the prospect of Ottawa and New York being around next season is likely to make life a whole lot tougher.

I hope we will bring in five quality players from Hull every week from now to the end of the season as this is the way to help improve our chances. Without them I fear we will continue to remain vulnerable to our promotion rivals.

If we don't get promoted this year, the future of the DR arrangement will then need to be seriously reviewed because it will have been a contributory part in our failure.

I rest my case. Since my original post 3 out of 4 replies have either mentioned Hull, their players or dual registration. No one as talked about your own (Doncaster) squad. Let's face it, you've been dual registered with Hull for at least 4 seasons and are still in League 1. Something isn't working but you still cling to the hope that their players will get you out of this league. At a very bare minimium (IMHO) DR should only be used to top up your existing squad and cover injuries when needed, not provide the nucleus of a team.

Most of us agree with that.
Try telling the management.
They are the ones that pursue this approach.
We mention Hull players because we don't have enough good fit ones of our own.
Take the Hull lads out and we are Coventry, that is the level we are working at just at present.
Apologies to Coventry.

Think you missed what I had to say jawuk"I believe we are trying to recruit local talent but bringing in players in this manner is more of a longer-term project, rather than a fix for now. The DR arrangement hasn't worked in the past because there was no consistency to the players we got from Hull. We started last season with some season-long loans including Jez Litten and Jordan Lane but they got recalled.

The club told us they had invested a large part of their budget in securing the services of better Hull players this season. In theory, the better Hull players would be of a higher quality than the players we can sign ourselves. For example: we couldn't sign someone like Hakim Miloudi but we could have him in our team on DR.

DR shouldn't be used as a reason for not building a good squad of our own but good recruitment plus DR ought to make us the top side in this league. The DR side of things is still coming up short as we're not getting the quality of players we should be able to expect with this 'enhanced arrangement'.

Would we be better off without DR next season? In theory, yes unless it's made to work properly. In practice, I'm not sure. It's hard to keep a deep squad of players happy if they're not getting first team rugby. You then end up getting into strife when the injuries hit as you don't have good enough players to come in and cover.

A strong squad plus effective use of DR should work to give the best of both worlds. We're not there at the moment.

First time near a computer since Friday; thought both teams looked very average at best fighting for scraps with very little creativity. Just came down to bounces of balls (which i bleive they fought for more) and them hitting their kicks.

On a positive note, was talking to a few of the injured players during half time, Brandon Wilkinson thinks he should be available for selection as soon as this weekend.
