The whole Marshgate area was flooded following the 1946/47 winter which was why they built those flood relief channels. I don't think they ever really solved the problem though. That must be just about the lowest point in Doncaster and there only needs to be excess water flowing into the Don from the hills around Sheffield for the problem to recur though I think the Don is in a slightly deeper channel there now.
