I watched the Hull V Hull KR game on Thursday night. It seemed like an action replay of the Dons V Eagles game.

Hull tried hard but were always second best in most departments. They looked unable to break KR down when they got near to their line. They gave penalties away like we do. KR seemed to have more speed in attack and looked more likely to score when they had the ball. All sounds familiar?

It's purely a coincidence that I'm talking about our DR team but rather ironic at the same time.

The situation that we find ourselves in is that if we play to our absolute best, remain squeaky clean in all areas, have a high completion rate, we may possibly win, but we probably need the other team to not perform to their best.

An example of this was in the Batley game. They were slightly off their game in the first half and we got in front. Once they got their act together, they threatened us with their pace and came out on top.

Why is this? The quality of the players in other teams is superior to ours.

We can put an occasional "off game" down to other things but we must draw the conclusion that the quality of players in other teams is superior to the players we've got.

Okay, we might be making some mistakes through a lack of confidence but the main reason is that we're being put under pressure and make mistakes because other teams are bigger and quicker, which then allows their half backs more time to be creative.

We need an injection of quality soon or else the season is going to get away from us.

On 2nd February, I posted the following: "We (the fans) knew it was going to be a tough season with other clubs signing some good quality players with experience, whilst we (the club) opted to not go down that road. Whether that was the right thing to do will only be proven in the fullness of time."

I think time has proven that it wasn't the right thing to do but I'm not going to castigate the club for what they did. In life, we all have to make decisions and sometimes we get things wrong. With hindsight, we can see the policy was wrong. Now is the time to re-group and do whatever can be done to bring in the much needed extra class that we're lacking.

I had the same feeling watching the humberside derby and couldn't help thinking that it is more than coincidence that the two teams find themselves in the positions in their respective leagues that they do.

Jimmy Ledgard would have caught that.:

Your crowd figure for this match is quoted at precisely 1200 - was this correct?
