The Doncaster to Hull/Shorpe line runs right by Stainforth dog track. We played there in
the mid/late 90's.

The South Yorkshire Junction Railway ran behind Tattersfield and terminated at York Road Station.
Although it was originally intended for passenger work the only passenger trains that went down there
were train spotter specials and I think they stopped running in the early 70's.

It ended up being a goods yard then when it finally shut I think Cutts Bros used the yard and the station
buildings as a paper recycling depot. Then they were demolished for the York Road widening scheme in the
early 90's.

You also get a nice view of Oakwell (Barnsley) as you approach from the south although from a distance.

In fact lots of local grounds lie next to railways.

Elland Road, KC Stadium, Glanford Park, Blundell Park, Millmoor, Victoria Park (Goole), Bell Vue (Wakefield),
Wheldon Road, Post Office Road........I'm sure there are more.

Even Rotherham United's new ground is being built next to the line at Rotherham Central.

Bring on the season more like!

I went to that one as well. It was the Wednesday after we played and beat Fulham away at Crystal Palace, i think we lost at Carlisle though.
It cost me a right packet in petrol that week.

Does anyone remember going all the way to Carlisles Gifford Park ground on a winter Sunday afternoon only to find out when we got there that the game had been called off due to a frozen pitch?

Can anyone name the player who scored a hat trick of tries for the Dons on the Gifford Park ground?

Yes, we got there and it was like concrete. There was no chance that it would have been played.
Did BM score a hat trick though, i thought it was just a brace of tries but i may be wrong?
