The Whitehaven team we played that day was dire; St. Judes put up more of a fight.
Losing Webster would definitely be a blow unless we had another player of his quality lined up.

Whitehaven are arguably the worst team in the comp and were playing their second game in 4 days after we had been given Good Friday off.

| So everyone apart from Runcorn Viking is in agreement.
I can sort of understand where Runcorn Viking is coming from. Webbo doesn't quite have the pace over 20 yards that he had a few years ago and he doesn't really have a long kicking game. However, I still think he is massively important to us from an organisational point of view. Going forward as well, IMO he still is very dangerous whether that be with ball in hand or passing moves. Admittedly, when we are attacking, I think people were expecting him to perhaps run at defenders a bit more, but I think he's done ok.
In the longer term, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't try and keep him for another season after this and if we do get a licence then we could try and go for a NRL scrum half. By the end of next season, Webbo might decide he wants to end his playing career anyway.

| Scrum half has been one area that we have struggled with for years and years now..
In recent years we have had a number of players ply their trade there but none of them have really lived up to the Widnes fan's expectations of what a number 7 should do.
Duffy, Penny, Coyle, Kain, Myler... for me Webster is the closest we've had to a genuine all round scrum half. Admittedly he doesn't attack the line as much as I would like and he isn't the player he was in 2006. But he does organise well, he still has an eye for a gap and he's a mature head out there on the pitch when it's needed.
I would be gutted if he did leave, and it would take a signing of someone like Ben Black to give me any solace. Black and Thacks as a half-back pairing would be awesome.
Can't see Benny leaving fax anytime soon..
Unless they really are out of money and his mate Calland is kicked out.
I'd take Beswick back too whilst we're there...

| Paul couldn't lace his boots any more, will see how he goes when the intensity rises and Leigh face a decent side for a change

Well we've smashed 'Fev and 'Fax already this season and got a draw with barrow. I'd class them as more than 'decent' teams and Robbie looked class against all of them (especially against 'Fax!!) And yes 'Fev have improved since then but so have we.
Webster V Robbie is one of the 1 on 1 battles I'm looking forward to the most.
Hopefully we will get to see Round 2 of Doran V Taylor too! That was awesome last year when they were both going out of their ways to smash each other!

And what a great little player he was back then

| Good luck to him at Hull but I think they have done us an almighty favour in this one.
The curse of the Vikings scrum half strikes again.
Promised so much yet must have had a handful of games where you genuinely thought he was a class player at this level.

They will be the same rumours that say Widnes might be having to do something similar.......

One club may have to cut costs because of the loss of a sponsor, CEO and board member resigning, loss of CC revenue and a probable fine off the RFL for incompetence/cheating.

| Think it's the best possible outcome for Widnes, he's looked poor whenever I've seen him this season and it must leave a huge chunk on the salary cap for a replacement.
