What i dont get is why people rate smithy i hope he does go!!.

He has been a great servant to the club but COME ON.. he must be our biggest earner and therfore taking up alot on " the cap".

When was the last time anyone seen him make a run from hooker, go for a run for the line " which was a trademark of his" when 10 yards out.

He has got very comfortable now Mark and got quite a few rollockings according to a Widnes player whom i know quite quite well.

People were saying the same about Ryan Giggs a few years back.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

And he's not the same as a few years back either.

A few years back his form was terrible, and people were questioning whether he had finished, now he is on fire. Have you been watching?

The point is, Smithy going through a temporary bad patch doesn't mean we should instantly get rid. Give him a chance, the are are not many finer players in this division.

IMO Smithy hasn't been bad, but just average and pretty anonymous from one game to the next. He's gone from being rated the best or 2nd best hooker in the division, to probably not in the top 3 or 4. Ellis, Penkywicz, Gleeson, Henderson are all now probably rated as better players in this division and lets not forget Graeme Mattinson completely outshone Smith in the play off game against Whitehaven.

I'm desperate for Smithy to do well as he has shown us loyalty in the past and also the no 9 shirt is so important for any team, but IMO smithy hasn't been that good for 2 seasons now. I guess it begs the question though, how much of that is down to Smithy and how much of it is because we've had a weak pack for the best part of 2 years.

As a last point, John Duffy was in no way my favourite player, but there were a number of games this season where we were a completely different outfit when Duffy came on for Smith. It didn't always come off for Duffy, but at least he gave it a go in each and every game. There have been a number of occasions this season where a lot people have said Smithy appeared to stroll through games.
