A poor game quality wise which was masked by the fact it was very exciting and could have gone either way. Atleast it wasn't a poor quality game that ended 8-4 or something.

Both side clearly weren't at their best yesterday, neither pack got a tonking or whatever some folk are saying. To suggest that this game is the bench mark for the results in the up coming games between us is silly. Halifax vs Widnes on every occasion is going to be a game you can't call with certainty. As Bill Arthur said at the end, it provides bragging rights for 24 hours and that extra 2 points for now. But there's a long was to go yet.

Both sides were poor imo.

Widnes were positively frantic. They were also quite predictable, with a short pass to a man running down the middle on nearly every play. When we did throw it quickly out wide Halifax looked panicky. Then there was Websters short kicking for Paddy Flynn to chase, instead of booting it down field to pin them on their own line and hunt for the mistake. This is what Brannigan did very successfully against us.

At the end of the day Halifax have put together a very experienced squad, and there is a lot of quality there too. We, more or less, matched them with a lot of youngsters in the side. I think that this gives us more reason to be optimistic than Halifax. The youngsters are coming along great and our policy of faith in youth is starting to pay off imo.

Leigh & Fev have good enough starting 13's to compete but in case of a couple of injuries would struggle whereas you saw in Widnes Vs Fax both had a few out yet pretty much first teamers out there... same could be said about Barrow with a few injuries in key spots!
