I was wondering why you had the Saints badge as your avatar.

I do find it a bit strange you could turn coats after you've allegedly been told to do one and also because you can't find a pint of real ale before a game. Lots of chairmen come and go but clubs in the main tend to stay put. It'd take a bit more than that for me to turn against a side I've supported all my life (or best part of).

Life would be a very lonely place if I took my ball home every time I hit a problem that didn't go my way.

Exactly Redchemic. If Ste O'Connor told me where to go I would reply in kind and inform him that he wouldn't force me away from my club.I reckon the fake fan was just looking for an excuse to abandon ship and go glory hunting at Saints.Like I say,you don't get turn coats turning up at a less successful club do you? He's in good company there anyway, they have one or two other frauds who used to be Widnes 'fans'.They probably meet up before a game in a real ale pub and talk about our club. It's tough being a Widnes fan at the minute, has been for a number of years but at least we still have our self respect and dignity.

Quote: Doc Holliday "It's not closer. It's easier to get to. Apart from that,[size Steve O'Connor tols me and my lad to **** off [/sizeat the Halifax play-off game in 2008 when we asked him why he was changing the match days from Sunday to Friday, so we ****** off. By the way, your Chairman had no interest in his home town rugby teal for 42 years so when it comes to glory hunting, we're not in the same league as him. Enjoy next Saturday. I'm sure I will!

If thats all it takes well **** off this board you turncoat your worse than any wire that comes on here. It doesn't matter who SOC is I'll still be a Widnes fan long after he's gone. So what if you watched Widnes for 32 years if you was a true supporter you would care what 1 person said to you.

So **** off and don't come back.

I haven't watched Widnes or any other club since the end of the 2008 season apart from once when a mate of mine who had never seen a game wanted to watch one and we went to a Widnes game. Like a lot of other people who stopped going, you just find other things to do with your time and money. Of course I hope Widnes do well because it means something to a lot of people I know and like. But when we moved house I found it's very easy to get to St Helens and especially easy getting home from an evening game. So, I watch St Helens and Prescot Cables and in the summer, Liverpool Buccaneers and Liverpool City. Anyway, have a good season and hopefully a good game next Saturday.

Yes, but it's a walk and two busses to get to Widnes and the service is unreliable. We were thinking of moving to Widnes about three years ago but I'm at the stage where I wanted to be back home with the family. I like Widnes people generally, but there's a lot more things to do here with all the theatres, pubs and a little bit of political activism thrown in.

I remember you on the Widnes board mate and was very knowledgeable on rugby. But I could not support another team even if closer to it.I travel from Gloucester which is further mate and I would
not jump ship because a chairman told me to Fu ck off.You support the Town and club.I would have just argued back or punched him. icon_lol.gif Anyway buy a car and you are always welcome back mate.Pint on me.

Each to their own, thick n thin and all that!

It's not the way I'd have done it. I go into Liverpool (absolutely love the place) quite often to pubs like the Ship & Mitre and the theatre. It doesn't kill me to do so.

I follow LFC too. I got a letter from them requesting money to simply stay on a season ticket waiting list that I'd been on for years. I took that to be a fu ck off from the chairman by proxy. I didn't go off to support Man U or City though.

All the best to you anyway Ron.

Stop being soft, and get on those busses, Ron. icon_wink.gif

There are people who come from much further than Liverpool to watch Widnes.

Am I right in thinking that this really has to do with the attitude of some Widnes fans towards you, because you are a scouser?

I seem to recall something along those lines.

There's certainly an anti-scouse and anti-Runcorn attitude among many of the clowns on The Truss messageboard, but there's also a racist one on there too. But, if the moderators want that sort of thing to exist, that's up to them. The thing holding Widnes back isn't some bloke who has never lived in Widnes deciding not to bother, but several thousand people deciding to become followers of some Premiership club while their home town club is struggling. They're the people to aim at. It's their town, not mine. As I said, apart from one game, I haven't watched Widnes since 2008 until the pre-season at Langtree Park. Nothing at all against the fans or the players and I hope everything goes well for them. Goodness knows they deserve it. So, after a couple of years with no team, I find myself in the position of having one which is very easy to get to and as a lover of the game, I intend to get there as often as possible because I've missed going to see a live game. It just happens to be Saints, but I'd be as happy watching any club. The game is the thing! Premiership soccer will never equal it.

Fair enough, Ron.

As far as your political activism goes; Francis Maude, George Osborne and David Cameron. You get the rope and I'll kick the chairs. icon_wink.gif

Having just almost choked on my farleys rusk seeing Ronnie in the away end at Widnes with a scarf with Stains colours on it, I came here to find this. Ronnie, I know I got on your nerves with my footy talk, but I like to think we had a lot of time for each other...I'll never forget your kind offer to take me to Leigh away (IIRC) when I was out of work and skint a good few years back. Never have the words 'kind offer' and 'taken to Leigh' been used in the same sentence before.

Anyway, I'm sad you jibbed Widnes off for a few choice words. I never listened to Happy Frank that time. Widnes will be here long after SOC and me and you have gone (hopefully), but one thing I could never do is go and pay to watch another RL team and actually support another team, wearing their colours. Its Widnes or no-one, its in my blood and I believe if you've watched them for 32 years, then its in your blood too.

Bloody Sintellins?? My nan has more teeth than St Helens Ronnie. There's an estate not far from the Langtree with the highest rate of inter-breeding in the UK.

I always knew you were a stubborn man and you stick to your guns if you believe you're right, but I can't see how a fan of 32 years can just "do one" on the say of a millionaire JCL.

You know I'm right, but you'll never admit it.

PS. Well, as if I could leave without mentioning football and the team, from that place I'm not from, that I follow. Managed to get myself in the executive box the other week at Anfield and met Ian Callaghan. What a bloke.

Hello Nudge lad! Well, I didn't have a professional local rugby league team once we moved back to Liverpool so once St Helens moved back to their home town, I decided to support the Merseyside club seeing as I'm a Merseyside bloke and not a Cheshire one. It's not as if I'm from Widnes or that me and Tony were strangers to watching St Helens or Warrington. It took us almost two hours from leaving the ground to getting home last Saturday and I couldn't be bothered with that every other week when I can walk down the road and get one bus and a 30 minute journey. I don't mind a bit of footy mate. Prescot Cables is very easy to get to and just like Widnes, the locals prefer watching Liverpool and Man U on the box while their own team struggles to get paying supporters.
That time against Leigh, well I'm sure you'd have done the same if the shoe was on the other foot.
Ian Callaghan eh? I remember him when he was 17. Took over from Alan A'Court on the wing. A week last Sunday I was in a French restaurant in Woolton and Sammy Lee came in with his family. He looks well for his age. Last Saturday we met Bobbie Goulding's dad in Wetherspoons. Also a nice bloke. Keep well mate.

No chance! Not when there's an upsurge in micro-breweries lately. Might see you watching a proper Liverpool team one day instead of a mob of millionares! www.pitchero.com/clubs/liverpool ... 58918.html
