Why ain't Widnes signing the best young Widnes lads available at this time? They seem to be joining other clubs.

I watch a lot of amateur rugby and know saints, Wigan and Warrington scouts who are out every Sunday watching the u13s/14s/15s and 16s but where are Widnes scouts? Do they have scouts?

Jack Owens, Declan Hulme, Paddy Flynn, Tom Gilmore, Grant Gore, Alex Gerrard, Adam Lawton and Danny Craven have all played in the 2014 season.

I'm not ignorant but I was in a meeting with Widnes regarding this 3 weeks ago and they basically told me they haven't done enough in local youth development and admitted they need to do better. I must admit I was pretty alarmed at the stuff they was saying regarding youth but I'm not going to into all the details as the meeting was exclusive. I'm not a Widnes lad but I'm told that the playing fields in Widnes are now all football pitches

First of all I'm not your pal, secondly your wrong not all the pitches in Widnes are now football pitches, and lastly after your 'exclusive' meeting you decide to post on this forum which is about as active as a nuns sex life.

Widnes currently have 30+ Widnes born lads at u13s age training twice a week a with the Academy staff at the stadium, they dont need to send out scouts they bring all the lads in so they have a look at everyone, not just the few that might catch the scouts eye on any given Sunday.

I know they have and it's called the pathway system. It was discussed in the meeting I was in attendance. They also train at Cowley in st Helen's with saints. Both are open to any child in that age range so the is good players and some woeful players.

I can also tell you that 4 of them lads are being looked at by saints, Wigan and Warrington. Two of them I have no doubt will be snapped up and it won't be for Widnes.

gNot really and if you say so in your world. The size of your Town should be getting 30,000 on average. Most Towns are full of footballers and Widnes is a third of the size of St Helens. Why you coming on here anyway, as your opinion does not matter to Widnes, and congratulations on double winners with much more years in Superleague , and more money to spend. That's the sort of attitude that puts Widnes in a poor category of producing youth. For a club with Widnes history I find it pretty shocking that currently the is only 2/3 Widnes lads playing in super league.

Grass roots rugby is what keeps rugby going and Widnes turn a blind eye to it. You qoute keep spending the money which I find completely laughable when last season our squad had pleanty of English and homegrown players.

Lomax, swift, jones, Percival, makinson, wellens, Roby, Thompson, Ade, wheeler, Richards, greenwood, walker, Savelio and others that played odd games all come thru our system.

turner, Flanaghan, Wilkin, Amor, walmsley, Lms are all English players that play for the club.

We also have the likes of Chris dean, Jamie foster, Paul clough, Lee Gaskell, Matty smith Jamie Ellis off the top of my head playing for other clubs.

Your correct we have spent money, we spent it on youth development.

Spent more on youth development because have more money, and your club is in the top 4 biggest clubs in Superleague. It be like Widnes comparing against Keighley.

Been new to Superleague and to produce Jack Owens, Flynn, Declan Hulme, Craven, Gerrard, Gilmore, Gore, Lawton, and others left due to money. Mullaley and Richard Myler where Widnes Academy players too. The way you are talking it is like we have zero. Anyway why does it concern you anyway?

You need to ask Ste O Connor and the RFL? Finances are also solid and we are progressing from the postion 4 yrs ago. Still a lot of youth in a short period of time in the top flight, and like your club not had many years in Superleague. Their is more than youth in a criteria too, and seen as you know all teams finances and business plans, I am sure you know best. Now bore off to your own board, as this is very tedious and boring.

Get over it as nearly a new season and the result stands.

Aye I'm not knocking O'conner or how well you done this year at all. I think Widnes had a great season and finished higher than most expected.

My comments are based on the grass roots and youth development of your club. You don't need masses amounts of money to scout the best local Widnes lads but you need to be out and about watching as the kids are the future of all rugby league teams.

IMO Widnes don't do enough at grass roots and Widnes have admitted this.

I was also at one of the Pathway meetings and Phil Finney admitted that in the past they hadn't done enough to scout players but were now doing things differently, hence the Pathway.
