All im saying is theres a reason clubs try to sign top class coaches, and Betts certainly isnt one. It will take time but a poor squad with an inexperienced coach doesnt look promising, with an experienced relatively successful man in charge theyd have a better chance

| You recruited poorly in the off season imo although I do accept it will take a while for players to gel. You were supposed to be after Lockyer but look at the dross you actually bought! If you had the money to afford Lockyer you could have attracted a better coach and better players than you did. There was no real marquee signing just mostly average players at average to poor SL clubs.
How much cap space do you have available? I suspect quite alot! Maybe a couple of loan signings are required?
Its always difficult for new clubs but if you actually have the money behind you that your board claim you should be doing alot better. I hope you do.
I wouldnt be surprised if your in a battle with london to appoint Brian Noble some time round easter!
Also something should be done to allow promoted clubs to sign players before the date in which clubs are officially allowed to talk to players. I think that would definitely help promoted clubs do alot better in there first season. Maybe even relax quota rules for the first 2 years. Give the new clubs a little boost to get them off the ground quicker!
Hopefully next season with a new coach and a couple of quality additions you will be able to compete a bit better.

| Having watched the highlights of your game against KR, you'll be lucky to get a 1st win. That was the worst defence I think have seen at this level, it was non-existant. Lots of work to be done I'm afraid.

| I don't think we're in a position to 'pick games' I must admit.
People will understandably say 'We should be looking to beat Wakey, Salford and London' etc etc but at the end of the day all of those sides will do the same. I am not 100% but I bet if you look at new clubs 'first wins' and wins throughout the season they'll be against clubs you wouldn't have expected them to beat etc.
It's important for us just to put 100% focus on getting better each week, getting a sound tactical base to work around every week (obviously the odd adjustments for certain opposition sides) and then a win will come and hopefully provide a spring board. We are too new a side to over criticize losses / performances (from a coaching point of view) and have to just try and grow together. Obviously we hoped to have 1 / 2 wins by now but we are we are. We have had the injury / visa issues but apart from the long term absecenties they should hopefully all be back in the next week or two and if we don't pick up anymore that will A) give us a stronger side and B) help increase competition for places as atm their are probably too many players guaranteed a spot by default. Especially in the backs.

| I know there will be some fans who would think we could finish mid table like last time we grace superleague, but the game has moved on, what the team had was focus, drive, direction and ambition, if we don't win one game this season but learn to play as a team I would be happy, but to do that you need a good platform, and belief. I'm not sure all the team have that yet, hopefully the next four matches we will see that, and then we can focus and build, at the moment we don't need to win anything this year to stay up, but we do need to show we are trying 100% of every game, 100% commited as a team, with "One" focus, I don't think we are anywhere near there yet, and I do think we need to sort the men out from the boys (no age relation), they either need to put up or shut up, agree or disagree, commit or ship out, this is no easy ride and they know that, there should be no going through the motions or stars, I don't believe any particular player thinks this, but there is a lot of team bonding still to be done.
Rome wasn't built in a day, but it wasn't given three years to come good either. From individual players we have some good men, put it all together and who knows what we could do.

| Your first season was always going to be hard as all semi-decent top players were already under contract until end of 2012. Next year should be a little easier as long as you have the financial backing to tempt players from top clubs that are OOC this year, and there are a few of them

| Of course our first season was always going to be hard, nobody diputes this. But the mountain we had to climb was made insurmountable with the appointment of a coach clearly out of his depth even at championship level. It was an enormous gamble and one which many predicted would end in tears and sadly those doubters are being proven right. It is not the fact Widnes are losing games but losing them in the first 25 minutes.A half decent coach could have this team at least competeing for most of a game with a sniff of winning the odd one.As it stands now the longer the club persevere with Betts the more difficult it will be for his successor to salvage something from the wreckage.

| Looking at where we are struggling... It seems to be a real problem for us finding the balance between slowing down the opposition at the play of the ball.
Either we roll off too quickly and the likes of Burrow, Dobson et al have an absolute field day or we're sticking on there and the next thing you hear is the referee's whistle.
We need to get smarter.
If we can get better at this then we will perform a lot better. Interesting to see a lot of teams using a third tackler to encourage the ref to give them a little more time. Something we could do with getting smarter at too.
There doesn't appear to be any penalties given for a flop tackle any more so we need to get with the programme.
The other thing that we must start doing.... is looking like we want to get up off the ground from under the tackle. Force the referee to make a decision, instead of simply lying there like a terrified virgin.
Finally, if a player with the ball is stood in front of you stood still.... don't just wait for him to make a move.. pretend he's a tackle bag, get your arms out wide and smash him with your shoulder instead of gamely trying to make a grab for his collar.
