I don't think this has anything to do with the RFL. There is the problem with players registration if a club goes into administration but I think in the case of relegation it is between the club and the player to insert whatever clauses they want about contracts becoming void.

This is probably to ensure that the club do not have to continue to pay a SL standard squad in the Championship when they are operating under much reduced revenues and the player has the option to try and find themselves a SL club.

In Leigh's case there may well not be anything about them getting relegated from Champ to Champ1 which is why they are seeking dispensation.

True! Yet you'd jsut say that it's there fault for being 'arrogant' if you like!

Similar happened with Newcastle in Prem they had no clauses to reduce wages etc in players contracts (most sides do!) so they are left playing full wack on less revenue!

Remember Bradford City and the Benito Carbone problem they had when they were relegated.

I think it's standard practice now, but the difference between the championship and champ1 should be nowhere near as severe as the gap between Super Leek and the Championship once you've included the loss of sky money, sponsorship etc.,.

I don't know the finer details of what dispensation has been asked for, when contracts were signed (signed, not announced), and I doubt that you know either.

One argument given for franchising was that clubs could build over a period of time, which is what we are trying to do. With that in mind, wouldn't the RFL be taking the pi$$ if they denied us any dispensation?
