| Quote: Viva La Vikings!! "I do believe and i think you'd agree, with 13 men all game and a decent ref, we would have won that. However like you said, very poor performance Chris. Ostick was yet again my motm then from there, i havent a clue.
Shame about Morrison.'"
I certainly agree. He punished us for holding down in a tackle which lasted about a second, but refused to pull them up for the same. He pulled us up for being offside at the kick off, which never happens. And it didn't happend when they were offside.
The less said about that last penalty the better but he was clearly bent.
Ostick easily MOM. Stood up when others didn't. Flynn was decent too as was grady when he came on. The rest? I will be diplomatic and say most of them need to do better next time.

Althgough I thought Lee Doran was our most consistant player last year I think he probably topped the penalty count. Snappy old dog see.

| First time i've seen em this season and i was hoping to see us do the basics well -
- Solid defence
- Complete sets
- Good tactical kicking
- Good decision making
- Good strong running forwards
- Discipline
Sadly we didn't do the basics well enough. And it was that along with Dodds play the ball F up and Smithy not passing to Webbo twice when he was screaming to knock over the 1 point to win...
Few positives i thought were -
Kavanagh looked hungry and up to speed after his "time off" at the end of last year.
TKL looked as fresh as ever, and strong as ever.
Webbo and Thackeray showed glimpses of brilliance.
Mr Wildbore however is a coward who will have to do a lot to make amends for that utterly indefencable cowardly act ... Lengthy ban me thinks coming his way.. And no matter how well he played and i thought he did a good ish job to day Duffy is not a LF and we lacked that little extra size and strength BB and LP gave us last year...
Recon we need a grizzly prop and a extra sessions on discipline in training this week..
Oh and the ref didn't make that many mistakes tonight.. Dispite what people think ! Get the blinkers off !!

Was unable to attend the game. What did Wildbore do to warrant the sending off? From some of the comments, im judging it to be pretty bad ?

My brothr reckoned there was a stamp in there, but even if not, the guy was on the ground.
Absolutely wrong for him to do that. Only asking to be sent off.
But I completely disagree with nes. Ref had a shocker. So did we tbh, but I think the ref knew exactly what he was doing.

| Useless, sorry the buck has to stop with the coach, get rid once and for all. Didn't help ourselves with the sendin off, and some of our defence was comical to say the least. Whats the point in having the HB of their quality if we aren't getting ball to them? On the positive, I like the look of Flynn.
Shite crowd too, and as for the lad who said there was a good atmosphere, you have to be joking?

| As a fax fan this is a bit of a shock, but Oldham are a decent side.
Regards the ref, he won't care if he's had a shocker, he'll still be picked to ruin a game next week

| Loz sent off??? For punching????
Surely not!!
Loz Won just about every player of the year award at Rovers last year and tows his rop out every game. How he kept going, week in week out at full tilt when some high profile big earning players quite clearly didn't is testimony to the lad. A really good player and on the pitch has just one flaw!!!!
Can you guess what that is...............

Thanks Blueboy - the first post to give Oldham any credit. Yes we are a decent team and are really an NL1 team operating in NL2 (or whatever they are calling the leagues this year). As someone else has said we beat a full strength Salford team in this comp last year together with Whitehaven and smashed Dewsbury by 50 points in the Challenge Cup - but this year we are even stronger having recruited players like Highton and Reilly who have extensive SL experience, Thomas Coyle who played a couple of games for Wigan in SL last year, together with Greenwood, L'Anson, Ballard, who played at NL1 last year. Ex Widnes man Dave Allen still to come into the team who has looked good in pre-season and would have played had he not picked an injury. Add to that a number of players on last year's squad who have played at a higher level. Oldham are nobodies mugs.
Even with 13 men in the first half an hour Widnes really struggled to break Oldhams defensive line.
Yes ref had a shocker, was bad for both sides but we probably got a couple of the key decisions (1) sending off - which I thought was harsh (2) late penalties in front of sticks - but Widnes really didn't help themselves with very poor discipline.
As for the post about atmosphere - I witnessed a lot of Widnes fans barracking the ref and then the fans didn't really come alive until the ten minute spell in the second half when Widnes got on top and fought back.
Very happy with the Roughyeds performance, think Widnes have significantly more problems than we do on that display.

You will walk your league this year imo
