We learned a big lesson today and i was impressed with Eden,Robinson,Brown,Cudjoe,George,Tommy Lee and Brough. They all ran s ragged.Widnes looked unfit and missed too many tackles. The kicking game and chase was awful. We got smashed in the Championship and we need to spend on a well established and decent coach, who will bring new players too the club and will give talented youngsters a chance. This was a time to put Jack Owens at fullback and Craven in his prefered postion of standoff.Betts wont last long if we have lost the first 10 games. icon_lol.gif

Someone text into Radio Leeds to say Betts must go. A bit early, but looking at the players you have on board, you shouldn't be losing like that. You looked a bit disorganised from the start and never got to grips with us out wide. It was if there was no change in tactics to defend against us when you realised we weren't going down the middle much.

You have some good players, a mix of young and experienced, maybe its time to gel that is needed. I hope so, I really want Widnes to be a decent team. Good Widnes team will be good for Super League and I can remember the days of Davies and co, that was an exciting team.

Thankyou and you where a friendly bunch of fans.I talked to a few in the Gas club and you have sumed it up well mate.I have watched Widnes for years and we seem to get the wrong coaches and tactics.Kurt Haggerty is not a centre and Jack Owens is the England Academy fullback and it was a chance to play him there and Craven at halfback in his prefered postion. Not impressed with White at standoff and i am sure Hanbury will improve.Anyway goodluck for the season. icon_thumb.gif

Lloyd White was shocking in defence. As were a few of them. Hanbury said he wants to dominate this team, okay, albeit he was playing behind a beaten pack today, but he looked anonymous to me.

With Briscoe and hopefully Watts back next week, I'd like to see Craven on the bench rather than White. We're seemingly desperate for our two new men to arrive also...

It's hard for Hanbury to do anything behind a beaten pack, Gale couldn't do anything at Catalan.

Anyway don't feel bad, quite a few teams get mauled by Huddersfield and some of the 'bigger' teams get beat by them. It will be a very long season no doubt about that, and tbh I'm shocked that a few of you thought you were going to be having close scorelines against the big teams, it's just unrealistic for now. I can see you fighting for 9th-14th this year then stepping it up next season and aiming for play-offs. For now try focus on beating the 'easier' teams like Salford, Wakey, Cas and London.

Hoping you play well and looking forward to the next time your on tv icon_biggrin.gif

Bulls boy I do expect to have some big defeats but by 20 to 30 points not 60.We where poor last year under Betts and got smashed 3 times by Leigh.Their is no set moves and we bunched like kids,no kicking game and signed some crap like White, and some of our Championship players where not good enough in that league.Leuluai was average in the 20s and others where better.Finnigan,Pickersgill,Coyle,Leuluai and Haggerty are poor decisions to take on.Flynn and Craven I agreed to take upto Superleague and Allen I was unsure about. We came 5th last year and I am not convinced about Betts.

Tbf to betts his hands were tied re signings- its all very well telling you in may you are coming up but you aren't aloud to take to players till September and money wasn't available for signings till Christmas by which time it was a case of seeing who was left!
Remember hudds managed to lose nearly all games with mal Reilly and John kear (4 wins!) in charge - its about the squad available and you will be able to start to build this season. the worst thing you can do IMO is to give the coach and players stick- the team get into a downward spiral that's difficult to pull out of if the fans don't give them self belief. First season was always going to be tough.

Huddersfield are a team looking to win things, and last season were looking like a champion side having beaten all comers (they only lost one home game all season against Wigan in a game that could have gone either way) and we will put scores like that on other teams this season.

Like Warrington they are an attacking minded team and like to throw the ball about, so a big score was no surprise. Especially on a dry day, a firm pitch and near perfect conditions.

As has been said, its all about building for Widnes, you'e got three years, not three weeks or three months to get competative and there are enough signs there that Widnes wil win enough games this season to do themselves justice.

Credit to the Widnes fans who backed their team to the hilt and stayed till the end to applaud them off even though it's hard to take any kind of defeat. We have been there as Huddersfield and so can fully understand, don't give up on them as it will get better. SL needs a team like Widnes.
As for comments about us being a little club, we are fine with that and don't have a problem at all. Browny got us playing some entertaining RL which is great to watch for the fans, early doors but we 2 outta 2 so all we can ask of the players really.

Good to see you fellas back in the big time....when i hear the name Widnes i think of Davies, Offiah, Currier, Hulme, Koloto, Tait etc and watching highlights from Naughton Park and dreaming of my team ever playing teams like that, Widnes belong in the top division .

Dont get too down though its a long hard slog and it wont happen overnight it took us a good 5-6 years to become a competitive side in SL but were getting there now.
Think yesterday was a bit of 2 things......we just clicked in attack and your confidence went down and we caught you on a really bad defensive day ...............it will come though keep the faith, see ya back at Naughto......sorry Halton Stadium !
