Disjointed performance tonight for me...

Not surprising really.. Netherton in at hooker looked like a player who had only been at the club for a couple of hours and in such a key area this cost us. Smith would have given us more drive and direction, Coyle some dynamism and Hulme a bit of pace and spark. I think Netherton will settle in though given an opportunity to train with the side.

Widnes never really looked like a team out there whereas Fev looked like a settled side and defended well. It was a better result than I expected but coming away from the match I was disappointed we didn't get the three points.

you have to be encouraged by the way Widnes have come back over the past couple of weeks. Ever since Janurary, we've been faced with adversity. I'm just crossing my fingers that everything may just start to click at the back end of the season. We've peaked before at this early stage, there's not a lot of use in it apart from winning the NRC. If we can managed a performance like that without some key men, I'm positive that we can get it right once the bodies are back fit.

I was sat amongst the fev fans, although I sat in the block next to where I usually sit so that I wasn't quite in the thick of it, they were very vocal and I think enjoyed the game, it surprised me a bit that when I commented at half time I expected us to be out of a bonus point at that point before the match started and I was very please, they were happy with an 8 point lead. I did wonder if the fans I sat near realised that we have been hit so hard with injuries and some of the team had hardly evey trained together, let alone played together, or were just totally focused on their team. I went to the game hoping we could scrape a bonus point and came away thinking damn we could have won that one, which then made me realise just how good we were.

it could be,

but with three tough games like that if the results go the wrong way, it could start a slip in confidence and dent the excellent start to your season

Featherstone aren't a top of the league team, they're a ordinary team who are cheats but they seemed to get away with it. The only things I could compliment them on would be the first try and the team speed if the line in the first half but during the second half they didn't make much of an effort to get behind the ref. They held down constantly, went for the high shot constantly and aimed for Doran all game, who surprisingly kept his temper for most of it. And the two moment, which I can recall, where they pushed around our players off the ball and got away with it. How the kicker did not get atleast a talking to for manhandling Davies when he tried to charge his kick down or even when the Featherstone player pushed Ainscough over for supporting the player. Their fans were a bunch of flatcappers who didn't seem to think Featherstone did anything wrong. It was like a scene from kes in the toilets at half time. Come on Leigh

In terms of Widnes a poor defensive display at the start lead to the first try and arguably a dubious second try. Yet it improved and we managed to keep their big forwards at bay for most of the rest of he game. I thought Netherton played quite well considering we weren't spelling him with Hulme and he looked knackered after doing a lot of work in defense. We did look quite dangerous in their half but we threw it away with all the knock ons and wild passes. But as like a few of our losses this season, if the ball had bounced differently etc it would a compelety different result. Only really Aniscough had a poor game. What was Doran doing when Webster passed him the ball, why didn't he carry it on. Dumb forward syndrome, probably thought he'd have lost it by then.

I personally thought we were the better side, we created more chances and had a lot more if the ball in attacking positions than Fev. The completion rate was poor, especially in the first half. We had chances to win the game and didn't take them. Exciting game but I thought the referee spoiled it with the constant whistle blowing. For both sides the referee gave and missed some stinkers. Areas I think we need to improve on are defence, we still don't seem to realise a man can't run without his legs, and a drop goal kicker/attempt. We could have took one in the 65th minute. I think we also look a bit flat in attack. Fev had lots of room to move where as we didn't. Mom I would give to Webster or Dave Allen, he made some hard yards and some great offloads.

We started poorly with 2 dreadful little chip kicks in our first 2 sets which put them on the front foot and gain their early try. It took us ages to realise a way of playing against the skinny 10 meters that Leahy was using (on both teams).
Webster was the general for us again but Thacks struggled because of the skinny 10 meters. Tonks played well for them but I thought Finn was excellent and much improved from when I last saw him.
Davies was an absolute monster for us and Paddy did well too. Dave Allen started off well when he came on but understandably faded.
Ainscough was nothing like the player he was when he had him earlier in the season and you can see why he's come back to us for a run at a lower level to hopefully get some confidence back which he should do.
Overall I'm not despondent as it looked like both teams had settled for a draw until the scrum penalty got them position to get the drop goal.
We can only improve as Varks and Allen had their first games back last night after injury. Netherton will improve the more training and game time he gets too.

Last word Fev fans - Superb.
